Just seen the news and it seems we are in for a record freeze this winter.
Typical, just been told the new garage i have ordered will take a bit longer to be delivered than expected.
Have to get the extension cable out and rads and duvet etc.
Mind you the weather forcasters have been known to get it wrong.
Michael Fish ; there will be no hurricane tomorrow !! :o ;D

Ps, on the bright side, think of all them burst pipes, kept us busy last year ;)

Good job I bought a pallet full of bagged rock salt last year, could be making a few quid round my street :D
Seriously though, not fun if we get the same as we had the last couple of winters.... got stuck a few times, worst one I was at the bottom of a cul de sac down a slope and spent 90 mins with a shovel to get my van out >:(

Not had my lwb sprinter in snow yet, not fun having 3.5 tonnes sliding around.
-
did the flood course purely on the back of the pipe thaw of last year, got a lot of work from it so bring it on again, i have dehums and i'm not afraid to use em. ;D
all though i didn't enjoy slowly sliding uncontrolably down a hill on snow, now that was scary. ;D

They can't predict 7 days let alone a few months. It won't be as bad as the last two, Mystic Meg told me.

True, they are struggling with 24 hrs at the moment. And of course what happened to the bbq summer..

I posted last week about getting snow tyres fitted now while they are available, I had them fitted in Jan and they still have a ful tread, they even stop you getting stuck on wet grass.
And in real terms they don't cost any extra as you keep the ones that come off and use them on the front when they are worn.
-
All due to the Jetstream apparently. It normally sits somewhere over the Shetlands but for the last 2 years has been down somewhere over the Channel Islands. And instead of being a straight stream of air it is now wavy. It means we are now in the Artic weather patterns as opposed to the North Atlantic weather patterns as normal. Insurers have warned us to be ready, dehums cleaned, pat tested and ready to go.
Also still convinced massive wind farms are having an effect.

Seems like common sense to me. The winds drive our weather so mess with the wind and you mess with the weather.

We got the snow chains for the vans in the summer from costco as everyone ran out of them last winter we are not taking any chances this time around.

I hope it does snow like last year, I loved it.All jobs cancelled for 2 weeks, sledging in the snow with my son everyday was fantastic.Putting the Xmas tree and trimings up,going to sons Xmas Carols Service, boozing, shopping. All the things I would miss out on if the weather was fine.Loved it.Too risky and a pain to get all the equipment in and out of van last year.Every single job that was cancelled all re-booked.Most people are understanding.

It would be one hell of a fluke if we had very cold snap again for the 3 year on the run.
The only reason we had it so bad for the last 2 years was because of a very rare easterly wind blowing from russia and norway, this created a doldrum of freezing air that would not shift.
The mild wet wind from the west commands our country throughout the winter, but very occationally we might get a blast from the east or north.
It has nothing to do with the gulf stream, that'll continue to flow our way for the next 2000+ years, and keep us warm. You need to start getting worried when westerlys are dragging us down to -20 in winter.
Winds.
South - 8)
West - :(
North - :o
East - :o :o :o

Mathew are you feeling OK? That was actually a serious, well-intentioned post with a valid point! ;D
What's wrong with you? ! :D :D
-
Jetstream Mat not Gulfstream. Here it is in black & white.
Jetstream moved South allowing Easterly winds to flow in so we were both right ;)
During the latter part of November, northern blocking established over Greenland which resulted in the Jet Stream moving south, allowing cold air to flow in from the east. Forecasters warned of the potential for severe winter weather and the Government stated that they were prepared for Winter weather after the previous UK Winter of 2009–2010
