Title: does wfp damage stonework?

Regarding stonework that has naturally aged (changed colour), is still soot blackened, like on period houses. Of which some would say is part of the character of old houses.

Does, or will, the run of soapy water down the sills etc from wfp alter the stone's 'patina' by basically cleaning it. Something that maybe not evident on the first clean, but after 3 years...?

Just wondering as i am part-time traditional and wondering if there might always be a market for traditional in this way.

maybe something that time will tell
and something perhaps for prospective ladder legislation to take account of.

Comment: Its worth considering that a lot of modern ingenuity doesn't actually take into the account the nuances of intricate things. Like stone cleaning damages the stones natural 'crust' leading to erosion, uPVC windows look sh!te on period property, because, for a start, the proportions are wrong, etc etc...

Hi Ben-chan

We do some really old places and I've never noticed any change.

I think a once a month clean doesn't always make the same runs in the same place in the same way the weather does.

hi

with wfp the water is very similar to rain water.  normally there is no detergent in the water so I wouldn't have thought it would cause a problem

I had one mouthy client [middle terrace house] who said that the tile cladding under the windows was a lighter colour after me using WFP. He said "I'M not having then done with that" refering to WFP. Fine with me I left them. Last time round another from the same terrace said the same thing. I said "you mean those light patches under the windows of no 32? yes that's right, well I don't clean no32, and no WFP has ever been near them." I'm breaking my nose to spite my face here because it's a lot quicker to do all of them with the ladder. I won't be dictated to though, not at £4.50 a clean. Dai

WFP will do some damage

especially if you ram your VAN into the wall, just make sure its crash tested ;)
