Listening to Jezza today, and he said that they are researching an item regarding the TWAHD - this was prompted by the story regarding the vicar who had to pay for scaffolding to change his light bulbs.
He wants to hear from anyone with experience of TWAHD - be they customers who have had a workman refusing to go up ladders or workmen themselves who are affected by the directives.
This is a golden opportunity handed on a plate for the Federation and the PWCA to:
1) Inform window cleaners (who are not Fed members or members of forums such as this) around the country about the impact the TWAHD has on all of us.
2) Inform the public of the changes their professional window cleaner will be making.
3) Let the public know about the fact that there are trade associations representing the window cleaning profession.
4) Raise the profile of WFP.
Contact should be made via e-mail: vine@bbc.co.uk
As I said, I feel this is a golden opportunity - millions listen to Jeremy Vine as opposed to the night owls who watch Newsnight - what a way to raise public awareness, as I'm sure other tv/radio/newspaper opportunities will follow. I'm going to e-mail with some thoughts and I reckon a few other window cleaners should as well. But, the trade associations MUST act - come on guys, grab the opportunity for us all!

I'm not surprised no one has replied?
What are we all? Idiots?

That's a bit strong Ross..... or am I not reading you right?

I owe mattstanley an apology.
I've done it again havn't I? :-[
I miss read the posting. I thought he meant the opposite of what he meant. If that makes sense.
I thought he meant that workmen or whoever should effectively ignore the WAHL's.
Sorry mate.
I will be e mailing Mr Vines this evening.
Cheers
PS Who is Jezza? I don't watch tv that much.

He contacted me today, may do a bit with him thursday :-\

No problem Ross - must admit, I didn't know what I had said to provoke your reaction, but if you misread my post, that explains everything.
Jezza = Jeremy Vine - host of Radio 2's lunchtime talk show.
I've had at least 10 customers say to me that they have heard he will be discussing the TWAHD's and I've used this to back up my decision to go wfp - it's been great.
Jeremy Vine's show is listened to by millions, so I'm sure we should at least attempt to take the opportunity as an indusrty, even if all we get out of it is to show that we (professional window cleaners) take H&S seriously and to raise the profile of wfp.
I know someone from the Fed is e-mailing him and a few other WCs have. Just have to see what happens.
Thanks for replying Ross. :)
Matt.

It's sometimes amazing just how the press and media can misrepresent rules and laws especially when they come from Brussels. (or is it Brusells?)
A few months back a local rag had a headline that went something like 'modern day madness - 3 men to change one lightbulb.
Sure enough, underneath was a picture of a workman standing half way up a 6ft stepladder changing a lightbulb, with one person holding the stepladder and another standing watching.
This was presented as gross inefficiency in terms of manpower and 'Europe has bought us to this'.
When I read further it turns out that the lightbulb being changed was on a railway platform.
What the paper didn't say was that it was within 6ft of the edge of the platform so someone has to secure the stepladder and the 3rd person was a lookout watching for trains.
I did write to the paper but needless to say it wasn't printed.
Cheers
