they always had little digs at me but last weekend i paid in quite a few cheques in the cashier said what are these for ? im like drrr my job
i MUST open a business account she said u need to have one and you cant use your personal acc, i said no im a sole trader not a ltd and i do not need to have one she went on saying these cheques cost us money to process you are getting free banking i went on saying , i do NOT want to pay x amount per cheque or per transaction she said well you get a free period here take a card and speak to so and so he will open you one.but she was so serious about it.
im thinking , what the hell....i will open a business account when i am ready in other words when it is needed for the image of my business right now its an unnecessary expenses surely if it was law to have a business account as a sole trader the bank would write to us explaining properly not cashiers harassing us
-
Open an account with Santander Business account. Its all free banking. There loss.

thats what im prob gona do im sick of getting harassed! up to 100 cheques a month and no charges for bacs or payments from paypal?
or should i speak to my bank manager first tell him ill just take my business els where unless his cashiers back of lol
-
Mine did this to me, and i opened one up, and i regretted it, and also my accountant told me to get shut, i was paying £30 - £50 a month for paying in cheques, i just thought ah well for a while then thought...why should i pay for it.
Ive gone back to my personal account now. You could always do what i do and use the cheque deposit point then you dont have to speak to anyone. ;)
I love how people who are employed are allowed to have their wages paid into their personal account but we're not?!?!?!
-
a lot of it has to do with the government and money laundering,
-
I prefer having business account as in past with commercial work i have requested cheques to made payable to me rather than the business name they would end up been made out to the business and i had the hassle of sorting this out
Looks more professional having everything made to the business and it keeps everything separate . MIKE

if you dont pay it in bank charges, you only gotta pay the tax man. so try and get a few perks out of as much as you can m8 ;D

are they not just trying to sell me something i dont need if the penny dropped i would go to Santander even thou the bank charges are tax deductible its still an expense not needed.
LWC its funny how when you pay it in with the self deposit way you get no stick lol i cant believe we are getting it from a cashier
-
Open up an account with Natwest or HSBC they have automated machines so you don't have to talk to anyone, therefore no one can complain.
Some even let you pay in coins, adds up to an extra £50 a month for me, just from coins

I'm with santander bb and they don't allow you to pay checks over the counter everything has to be done by the atm machines.. santander are good for given us free business banking for life.. I'd recommend getting an account before they change their minds about given free bb..
And like others have said it look so much more professional being paid into you business account name.. makes me feel like I'm no tax dodger when I ask for checks to be made in my business name.
-
im with barclays i get a little invoice each month you owe us x for 3 cheques, 4bacs, xxxx what a load of bull s*it there supposed to be helping businesses not charging them what is the difference between a personal or business account they still wont give you a loan no matter how much you prove you can repay it and your still the same person , just working for yourself not someone else either way your getting paid by either cheque or bacs >:( really sore point for me
-
I have paid all my cheques into my current account for 5 years...
They never say a word ... why? ... because i put them all in the envelope provided and drop them in the deposit box,
by the time they come round to doing them, its nearly closing time and they cant be bothered to write to me, they just want to go home....
plus , they cant see a face to tell off !
;)

This is exactly what I a talking about - free banking at Santander. I use it for my Ltd company for pass 10 years (back then it was Abbey)
I do all my transactions online, post the odd cheque if it needs be. I recieve a lot of BACS paymenst into the account and put cheques into a deposit envelope. I can put this into any Santander ATM at any time.
I have never had a problem.

let me guess......Lloyds tsb ???
-
DONT GET ME STARTED ........HALIFAX :( :( :( :(
I hate them so bad , no sooner am i through the door some pleb jumps on me and says use the machine over here , i say no thanks , they say it will save you time , i say i have lots of time , i then explain that i would like to deal with a human as the money needs to show by the morning to clear the mortgage , if your machine develops a glitch you will stuff me for a bank charge , i win , then i have to face the counter plank , do you have a business account , i say no , you should what with paying in these chq's ,i then explain that i wont pay your bank charges as i cant afford them , this works at the mo !
I have now gotten into the habit of taking a bag of coin with me , here they cant take coin at the mo so i get left to go to the counter, on friday i had no coin and got accosted on arrival , usual blah blah , i tell him i have a Q about my credit card , he says they dont deal with credit cards at the desk , what a crock of bull , they can sell you one i say , he then says ring them up at a cost of 50p a min , i tell him to do one , he then goes to the cashiers and tells them to not take my credit card Q as i will be ringing them , i had a good mind to floor him but did not , such a shame im in the red with them at the mo as i would have closed both accounts there and then !

pay a small amount to the bank in charges or pay more in tax to government, either way you are paying to bank that cheque, look at the bigger picture
-
My accountant either said...spend a £1 or give the tax man 30p and keep the 70p...much bigger picture.
Crystal Clear, if they harasses you any more say youll move bank then, theyll soon shut up.

ok can't get my head around this
but here goes, pay 1000 pound into business bank and get charged a tenner(this is just for discussion)
pay 1000 pounds into a normal account and no charges
you only pay tax on 990 pounds for the first scenario but you pay tax on the second for 1000 pounds
you don't have the hassle of grief from the bank, you can accept payments to your company name,
-
For discussion
1000 no charges, 300 roughly in tax
990, 297 in tax plus 10 charge = 307 out of pocket
And as you say for discussion...bank charges are alot more with a business account.

I'm not sure how some of you guys live. WHats hard to understand that your bank does not want your business transactions going through your personal account? and its nothing to do with law either that your bank wants you to have a business account even though you're a sole trader. Anyway, when you decide for 'your business image' thats its right for you to get a business account, don't go for one of the many free ones whatever you do !!! Mountain out of a molehill or what ?

only geeks read the small print
-
id like to see the bank manager doing a day on the windows, wipe that smug look off his face with a cherry picker with a dodgey leg , while i swop over and really mess up the books behind the counter
itd make a good tv series come to think, job-swap u.k.

Remember bank teller are paid to open business accounts and worse the have targets to meet on this score. It alack of subtleness on the teller that they cannot sell you the benefits of a business account.I would tell my bank manager about this pressure by his staff. Then feel nothing to leave your bank as they will never stand by you. They are not loyal to anyone except there own income. If any bank treats you wrong move on.We are already taking up the slack for there poo that they got us as tax payers and we do not need to take there crap.
-
Forgot this, yesterday went to the bank and there deposit machine was down and the teller said I must fill in a form to deposit the cheques and cash , said sorry I cannot read or write and also a weak site. I will make a point of always using a teller to fill in my forms after all it is they who need the forms not me.
-
im sure that once they suss youre paying in cheques its then flagged up on your account the next time you go in. ive seen the teller look crafty eyed . as if they might be ready to push a security button with their right foot
-
Don`t take poo from banks you are the customer.I will tell them were to get off.
-
to be honest i have been considering opening a business account with lloyds tsb. been using personal account up till now, but looks like if i want to expand us much az i am planning then its a no brainer really.
-
"Most Banks" have contract rules. Most banks allow leeway but when it becomes obvious that you are using a personal account then at some point (depending on the bank; the cashier; the cashiers mood, time of the month, hassle from boss etc) they will flag it up.
You have a choice of a) complying b) leaving c) complying and moaning like a schoolgirl about a bad hair day d) leaving and stomping out like a schoolgirl who's had an argument about whether Simon Cowell was right to drop Cheryl Cole from X factor.
Simples!
Oh and going to Santander is like choosing a pre 55 reg Renault Trafic with an unmodified gearbox = dodgy!
;D
