Title: Smoke damaged carpets
Post by: Bob Robertson on October 05, 2011, 05:57:41 pm
As Ive not done the fire restoration course yet, whats the best product to use on smoke damaged carpets? All carpets are upstairs and the fire was in a utility room downstairs in the kitchen. Going to try out LTT's new odour stop which has a minty smell on a leather cushion tomorrow to see how it works.

Unless the carpets are 100% wool the manmade fibres will have absorbed odour which may be impossible to remove. Also if the fire was intense then the pressure build up may have forced smoke through the full layers of the carpet and even into the underlay. If its just light damage then Ultrapac or Champion conbined with a deodouriser with acid rince should do it.
With fire damaged furnishings don't try and be a hero, any doubt hoy it in the skip.

Unfortunately Paul, Thermo 2000 is no longer stocked by Chemspec!
