Hi folks
I'll try and be brief in my explanation...and am after gauging if there is any mileage in persuing this.
Agreed and booked a job at the quoted price. (leather recolour)
Ordered materials (enough for the job) and set date ...arrived on said date and started job....upon arrival the customer was straight on my case for a carpet cleaned at the end....gave price started quibbling about this n that ...anyways said i'd do the through lounge carpet for free at the end...
Anyways due to the amount of application on the recolour i came up short on the colour....explained that id take the remaining cushions off site (to my home) re order the colour do them and return them on the friday (I started the job on the monday)...they were happy and no problem re this
Colour came done them and returned the cushions to find they were a different shade of what had been applied on the monday!!!!!... Took them away apologised ...they seemed okish...(problems happen dont they??)
Yesterday i obtained an exact colour match and re done the cushions and returned them today...however yesterday she called saying "i'm not paying the price i hope i get money off for this inconvenience!!".... enter the debate me standding firm on the price and at which point i threw the ball back at her saying "you tell me what you think you should pay?" her response was 100 quid less than the agreed price ....i replied "you can try and pay that but thats not the price"... the conversation then went around in circles..
Anyways returned today .... nice and calm... with my invioce for the full amount ... and my little lines that basically say they are happy with the work when invoiced...had them agree a few times there was no issue with the workmanship .... they said they weren't happy with the delay etc.. which i dont buy as once i identified the issue i sorted it ASAP...they where left with there suit at all times etc...so cant say they were without it..(other than the 4 back cushions that needed re done)
Anyways Q payment time....yip you guessed it 100 less than the agreed price ....q the discussions ...anyways took the money given but outlined there was still a 100 pound outstanding...give them the invioce for the agreed price and said i'd be seeking the outstanding 100 quid..
Is this worth persuing???.....its wound me up as she is clearly one of those who goes on holiday intent on seeing how much she can claim back in compo !!!!.. also she said "i'll make sure your name is tarnsihed around here" and also "ive been to the small claims court before so crack on"!!!
sorry its long winded but hopefully gets the true picture across.
-
Doesn't she also have a name that can be tarnished as non payer ???
You never agreed discount if job ran slow
Ask for the colour back you paid out for, some alcohol should get it off ;)
-
For £100, forget it - lifes too short
-
Letter from you saying you will go to small claims court and full price including court costs claimed through the court.
Shaun
I wouldn't let this arrogant person get away with it
-
Sounds as though we have a few chancers around at the mo with some of the posts on here..
-
hey,,,recolouring leather,,wow, thats new to me,,,how and where did you learn that,,,
-
how much profit was in the job?
you did inconvenience them so some sort of recompense is not totally uncalled for.
so just forget about it
-
Sorry but I think there should be some money off the end price.
It wasn't the customers fault insufficient quantity of product was ordered, then part of the suite was taken away for days, then the wrong colour match to boot at the end of that.
It's all a bit different to removing the suite from the property to be worked on over a given set of time.
-
Some people will look for an excuse to pay the full amount... i used to work for a gentleman originally from the Middle East, he would deliberately confuse a workman by not clearly explaining his requirement and then when the work had been completed he would ALWAYS quibble over the bill until the person on the receiving end was so fed up they would just be happy to take anything...
Sounds to me like you have provided a fair and honest service even though you encountered some problems, why not appeal to this greedy woman's nature and reduce a small amount for "her inconvenience".
People like her should def be exposed on these forums to protect us all.... i wouldn't want her business
-
Fire a letter to her demanding that you require payment of the outstanding balance within 14 days or you have no option but to escalate the whole situation and she will be liable for court costs as well as the £100.
She will not want a CCJ.
What can she do to you're reputation if you did a good job.
Balls to em ... should pay up
-
I wouldn't have given the cushions back until payment received! You saw this coming!

Same here. If you saw this coming, you could have used that. Too late now IMO. I'd let the 100 go and move on.
-
Move on, in fact I would have offered some sort of discount for the inconvenience anyway.
-
i agree with the others, i'd forget about it!!!!
But to make yourself feel better, wait till the early hours and go and take a dump in her letterbox!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
opinion divided then .....
I agree inconvenience = Discount (There was no negotiation on her part once she came up with magic figure of 100 less)....
Re I seen this coming ..... Yeah maybe....but like i said .... got them to sign off on the work then they handed me the cash i handed them the invoice ... i counted the cash ....100 short....outlined the agreed price ....response "thats what i'm paying and nothing more ... take me to court ".... so are we saying i should have handed the cash back?....and walk away with nothing and dispute the full amount?......
-
;D ;D... i did think of that billy
-
So you aren't wanting the £100 back...? Maybe £50 or something, in which case I'd let it go...
I had something similar a while back and I WILL get my revenge..... I am a very patient bloke.... ;)
-
so are we saying i should have handed the cash back?....and walk away with nothing and dispute the full amount?......
If you're after the full amount then yes.
the fact you walked away from the customer with a given amount of money could be taken as you accept that amount as full payment.
-
just be careful, i tried it once and it backfired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
i can dump through the eye of a needle......so a letter box is nee probs!

Depends how much the job was worth and you should have decided how much discount you gave not the customer, next we'll have customers determining our prices ;)
-
i would say let it go and yes, have a good curry first. ;D

Chilli Chicken Tikka does it every time for me.... ;)

I would think that if you did take this to court the magistrate would probably end up making a compromised figure but would not award you the court costs anyway so it would not be worth your while. Have you discussed the matter with the suppliers of the dye as it is really their mistake that has caused the bad feeling in the first place and would they be willing to meet you half way or discout of next order, have a chat to them.

Peter ... i've already sorted it with the supplier....who i must say have been very good....
Steve... i agree like i said i wouldve have discounted but not the 100 quid ... but she wasn't listening... >:(...so i guess she had set the price....
ok i guess i put it to bed and move on which is frustrating....... but not forget eh Billy!
Just a bit bitter that she has happy with the work.....yet says she will bad mouth me...
thanks folks

Two words, Urine and Shower Gel (ok three words...)
Revenage for weeks/months mate! :)
-
just remember body fluids/waste will lead back to you , now a stanley knife or paint stripper used on the car well???? just remember what they are doing is stealing from you so whatever you decide to do is fair game.
-
just send a letter asking for payment in full within 7 days... then if no payment send another one stating if not paid immediately the case will be referred to a debt collection agency.. usually you never have to go any further than this.
Dave
ps it's your money, you've earnt it go get it paid. don't enter into conversation with her unless absolutely necessary.
-
Her 'discount' was the free carpet clean! ::)
Bet she's the type who complains at restaurants and then never pays.
There's always the classic approx, ie You ba*t*rd on the front wall and a note through the door " I thought you loved me and now I find you're married" ;D
-
How long does it normally take you to earn £100?
How long have you spent agonising about this so far?
What sort of discount would you look for if a tradesman working for in your house made a cock-up on a) a £200 job and b) a £700?
How have you reacted when you've broken something, perhaps, and the client has gracefully told you it didn't matter and you needn't recompense them?
Yes , it's galling but we all suffer occasionally.
Put it down to experience.

Once you have resolved this.. i suggest exposing this woman... just her name and area so none of us get to deal with her!
More and more people are getting work done and then refusing to pay the amount agreed, they simply do not play by the rules because they have very little morals.
The trouble is she probably already has CCJ's against her name so another one wont bother her.
