Had a few bad weeks, few time wasters told that I wont come any more if they keep me in on "not this week" conversation every time i come.
Have been trying to do some canvassing as I desperate for more work before end of this year.
End up going from one place to another for a whole day, as it seems every road I go they have a windy.
Maybe I should stick to my guns and keep going from one road to another and to another until I find that one or two customers.
How do you guys do canvassing, do you find moments then you feel you waste your time in this road ? maybe you just work it as a number game and just mark the road you have canvassed ?
Some of you I seen on forum are canvassing all the time, how do you keep motivated ? do you work with a plan or just go random roads ?
having a website done - hope that will help.

The difference between those with big rounds and those who pack it in and leave the game is having the self motivation to keep going when others would just give up. To get a good sized round isn't easy. It's just hard enough to separate those that "Want" a business, from those who "Think" they want a business.
It's times like these that decide who goes on to build a good income and those who leave the WC game. You have to find what works best for you. For me it's someone telling me it's "Their Patch". Just had on e last month. Made me go out leafleting and knocking. Put a whole new load of work in place.
I find that a new piece of kit, or my vehicle cleaned up etc gives me a push. New custies usually make me feel motivated too. Alot of people outside of window cleaning think it's all about speed and kit. It's about having the bottle to knock doors and/or leaflet when everyone else is sitting at home infront of the TV. Those who work at their business hardest, earn more than the ones that want to be comfortable.
Get your backside out there for yourself, or pack it in and go do something else mate. It's upto you.

Thats exactly what you have to do...
The other week I canvassed one road for 2 hours... The last two houses in that road that I knocked on are now new customers! I could have given up after an hour... Persistence is the key!

i always stay as long as possible but if your getting de-motivated, hit a fresh patch, try and be as positive on number 50 as number1 thats the hard bit, every customer you get convert it in your head to annual turnover, rejoice and keep knocking

Top post cozy
I find a little reward system for myself-a new brush, reel/ bit of new kit/a new toy
Reward yourself for your hard work ie " if I can pick up 80/100 quids worth of business today, I'll buy a new .....?"
Try it, sad, but it works for me-make it fun and enjoyable

Its a numbers game the more you knock the more customers you will get.Set yourself a target of 2-3 hrs and dont stop knocking till the time is up.Canvassing can be disheartening at times you just got to keep knocking.

read the e myth book. quite a good wee read. I have worke din different industries and this book speaks a lot of sense which you probably already know but good to see it in print.

The law of averages the more you knock the more you will achieve-another thing there are a few who start this then realise how hard it is then jack, so if u ever get the comment "we had a cleaner but have not seen him for months" that is when you canvass that particular area hard, I canvassed 7hours once then got 4 in the final hour and the way to cost it out is I have just given myself a £480 per annum pay rise for 7hours work.how many people can go into a job where you reap what you sow also do the best job you can without the pound signs getting in the way and you will definately get referrals

As said, really good advice from Cozy.
I am in the process of building my work from scratch following a move to good old Oirland.
In 7 weeks I have knocked close to 2000 doors and have got 70 customers from this.
The problem I have faced here is that there is a different attitude to window cleaning here than in the UK. Whilst I have some monthly customers, in most other cases following a first clean, it's a case of "I will ring you when I need you again". That may translate to 'never'. It's not that I charge too much, or that I do a poor job. All comments made to me on both counts have been very favourable. But the reluctance to give me regular work has affected my positivity,as I will need to keep on canvassing continually until I have enough good, regular work. I don't mind canvassing, it's just that I need to be earning, and as yet I have a long way to go before I am earning anywhere near enough to cover my bills.
I started out very, very positive, but have to admit that I hit a dip last week and was beginning to wonder if I could make it work here. However, I took a day off to recharge my batteries, then got back to canvassing the following day. I am slowly but surely finding worthwhile customers and my optimism has returned. My determination to succeed, however, remains as strong as ever.

I find a healthy fear of poverty a good motivator. ;D
If you think it's hard now wait a couple of months.
There are customers out there just keep on knocking.
I even made a note of who was out and called at a different time. That worked.

what time of the day r u knocking, if you knock when no one is there then you will get fed up, i had a mate do this, woudl knock big estates in the day time, when all at work and then moan there was no work
have set hours for knocking 6-8 4 nights a week and knock these hours, satar at one end of the street and just keep going,

A (successful) pal of mine said that your success in business is directly related to the amount of sh!t you can deal with and keep coming back.
Keep plugging on.
