Title: Insurance quotes
Post by: joshem on September 24, 2011, 10:05:21 pm
I'm just about to start my second year of window cleaning and my car insurance is due. I'm 25 and the commercial insurance quotes are astonomical, around 2.5k (as they were last year). Can anyone help me out getting the price to something reasonable?

[/q My son's 19 with 2 yrs no claims. His insurance the last 2 yrs was £1700 a yr for a Ford Escort van with Aviva. He insured it through a comparison website. This yr the quote was £1700 again so he went direct to Aviva's website. He got a quote for £665 for private van insurance with business use. I rang them to check he would be insured for his window cleaning and they said yes.

Dougaldum: Just with business insurance? That quote of 600-odd is similar to the quotes I get for business insurance. I will give Aviva a call then!

George P: Thanks, I'll have a look online for a number.

here you are mate an old post with his number on

stephen eyre at G.T.Insurance, he is very helpful, his  number is 0115 9394747, we have started going to him now as helpful and competetive, all our insurances are here, we had an unusual item to insure and he found out about it to make sure we were covered (not work related)
hope that helps
george

try swinton,  if your working out of your car,  then you only need normal car insurance as it is only taking you to your place of work  not helping you do the work

no a van is commercial, as the main purpose of a van is work,  u just tell them you are a window cleaner,  there isnt any mods to vehicle and you should be ok,   avoid specilist window cleaning insurance companys, they just rip you off

eh that is compete and utter rubbish, you have to insure it for work as well, ok you can take out a private policy but it must have for work as well included as well, ask the fella on here who was done and lost his motor when stopped by the police and was done for having incorrect insurance

Just contacted an insurance broker. They told me that I would only need business insurance and not commercial as I am working from my car. Reduced the cost a bit :D

Don't you mean £1665

My son has the same, 2 yrs ncd 19 yr old. We live in the 5th most desirable place to live in the UK  :o (Apparently)
It cost £1200 just to put him on my wife's Clio 1.2 insurance. So I don't know where you get that figure from. He's also been on Aviva for a cheap van quote and they are all coming around £2200. min
