Post by: Paul Moss on September 13, 2011, 07:29:03 pm
I tried to order a rug doctor to day and would you believe every supplier in the country has been out of stock for 2 to 3 weeks :o and they are all waiting for a nation wide order thats coming in from the States some time this week.

Perhaps I'm missing a joke here, but why?

It begs the question, why the demand for them all of a sudden?

Also who is buying them all? :o

I suppose people who maybe bought the Bissels,  Vax's, etc, but who still expect to get as good a result as a T/M after all was that shown to be the case on some " test " last year.

They probably have a load of them they have had to take the brush motors out of to supply as spares. Pretty much see one a fortnight needing that part replaced.

Neil, the hired ones are a different coloured one to the bought ones. Its the blue one that is in demand.

well we can all individually sit around and bee-yatch about em or we can join forces and take the bar stewards on, its time to put the professional back into carpet cleaning, www.tacca.co.uk

seriously, this can be done if we join together.

plus i could do with a 7 day holiday from this place. ;D

now on facebook, twitter, youtube and stumbleupon, more to follow. social media, its the future. ive tasted it.

Yes, but we've got to keep an eye on the opposition to stay ahead.
This does sound like someone is setting up a national organisation/franchises using these machines.
Is Ballantyne still involved with that window cleaning company from Newcastle because didn't they have plans to cover the whole of the UK and do carpet cleaning too?

Perhaps carpet cleaning is becoming popular, as RD are in use more so are our services I would imagine that the market share is simular to last year and the year before.

That's a fair enough assumption given the economy and all that. I was doing a carpet clean for a small time furniture retailer the other week and she said they've hardly made a sale in the last couple of months.
Does begger the question though, why would people buy a machine at several hundred £'s when for irregular usage you can hire one for when needed for £30??

If there's a supply problem then any colour will do or perhaps someone has done a deal with a chain of nursing homes

Probably because they are bringing out a new model "Mightypro X3"......i think we should be worried.. :(

We can harp on all day about changing peoples conception on how and who should clean carpets, life is about making £ notes as fast and easy as possible. Giving you enough free time and extra £ notes to play on your pc's  :) go on holiday, play golf or spend some quality time with your loved ones  ;D

Its only going to be a big concern that can have any inpact on the rug doctor brand, the shareholders are raking it in and will not be worried about where the next meal is coming from.

Two scenarios:

1) Spend 20k on cc'ing stuff and earn £100 - £200 a day by hard graft and convincing the customer that you are the best because you will not make their carpets re-soil faster.

2) Spend 1.2k on four rug doctors and work part time delivering/collecting, throw them away after six months and buy some more.

Earn more or the same using scenario two.

I know which scenario I would choose.

I've never used one. Don't need to now with all the kit and chem's in my van.  But how many professional cc'ers have actually used one? I dare say a lot of you have had to clean up the mess after a customer has used one (probably) incorrectly but that's not the machine's fault.  Homeowners have all the time in the world to use a RD slowly at the weekend and could probably get a good enough result on light soiling.  Yes, they are an easy target for our scorn but is that really because they aresh!te or is it because they make a dent in our profits?

I wonder what they would be like with a strong microsplitter.

Time to go............... ;)

hehe, interesting comments all round, well i will happily admit, we have one, and used with the correct combination of technique and chemicals, we get great results when cleaning small area carpets in apartments, it owes us absolutely nothing and continues to generate good profits, and yes, we have much larger porties also, but,,,horses for courses

I have used one as well, dont get me wrong dont rate them but in the right hands the job they do is not bad  first couple of passes not the best but when you suss out how fast you can go and how much chemical to use (I used my own chems) it was okish,

They are good machines and I have bought quite a few over the years for my contract cleaners to do daily spills.
Deliveries from the States have come into the country today so I have managed to get one for one of my new Residential home contracts.

I guess with the down turn in the job market that more and more people are now starting cleaning business and because these machines are so cheap its their first point of call.

This is exactly where we see them coming from Paul.

domestic cleaners and care homes.

We used to be dealers for them about 10 years ago  :-[ :-[ :-[

I forcasted the sign of the times a few years ago and its been late coming but believe me the next 2 years are going to get harder with lots and lots of new starters.

A recession.... NO

This is how things are now and will be for some time now so get used to it. :-[

I went to look at a van today, the 'man' who was wearing jogging bottoms with lets say a faded aztec style pattern (I am saying nothing, I'm not one for stereotyping) offered me a rug doctor, a red one.

He wanted me to test drive the van, I declined as not insured, he replied "thats ok, my neighbour is an ex copper, he see's this all the time".I still declined, my mind was made up when he told me the reason it crunched into 2nd is the fact it had a front end smack a few months ago and this pushed the engine slightly out of place?? His neighbour came out a couple of minutes later and asked him when he was going back to finish his carpets!!

A red one is rental right?? (not that I would have gone to the ATM if it was blue).
Needless to say I had read this topic yesterday and didn't buy the van. Goes without saying I didnt buy the RD.
Relevant...I dont know just my experience from today. :D :D

Red machines are for rental only. Check Rug Doctors listing on eBay about them.

NEVER buy a red one.

The reason they are average is that there is no pre spraying and agitation
when they start to hire a rake and an affordable pre spray, you can then see that the actual machine does a good job,
thats when you can start to s ;D ;D ;D yourself
