Recently a few of my customers have had leaflets through the door with prices on (effectively making them quotes).
Do you think adding prices is a bit naughty as opposed to just a leaflet offering your service?
Wondered what people's thoughts were....

nothing wrong with it.

Hi Mike.
there is a firm in Andover doing the very same thing only they just write the price on leaflet, thing is they have such a bad reputation, yes they do pick work up through them but surprisingly many customers dont take them up on it.
my mate has lost a couple to them but most of his customers wont touch these people with a barge pole.
even in times of hardship a lot of customers stay loyal although this winter will defo be an acid test.

I guess it comes down to the same old....do a good job, reliable etc and you should retain your customers. The one's that go aren't the sort you want anyway and will just move to the next cheapest as they come....

nothing wrong with it.Always put prices on my leaflets, get a better response with price than without.

That's interesting sf.....have you had any adversity from other window cleaners who's doors they've gone thru?
-
i,ve often wondered why everyone doesn,t put prices on flyers (any trade) where it,s possible to do so,i think you,ll get a lot better response from people if they know exactly what they,ll be paying. a lot of people won,t call for a quote through fear of it being too expensive and then feeling obliged..

Beats me how they can price a house without seeing the back. ???

Im more expensive than other window cleaners in my area.So dont have any problems with other window cleaners.

totally second that and custys that have had priced leaflets say the same thing ??? ???

It depends on the type of house from my experience. There are new estates coming up in my area where all the window styles are exactly the same so you know where you stand.I'm in the process of sorting out some leaflets with prices on for these as there is no scope for getting the quote wrong.I wouldn't quote for any other house without seeing it.

Are these set prices you put or starting from prices?

We do it if we are trying to get more work in a street. I do tend to only target filthy windows though. I already know what the backs are like so I just leave a price (and say connys are extra). It's not undercutting because you don't know what others are charging you're just giving them a price.
Last time I did it I only dropped off 7 leaflets with a handwritten note and I got 2 calls which is far better than leaflet only ;D

When you put out a leaflet with a price from............., most people expect that to be the lowest price which will NERVER apply to them. It doesn't mean much either as it asks more questions in the homeowners mind than answers, and the results are mostly negative. (Is this for cleaning the door - very very expensive; is this for cleaning the front only - very expensive. etc)
IMHO it is better to offer a free quote on your leaflet in bold lettering as you can see the reaction of your potential customer once you have given it. A walk around also gives you time to justify the price, ie difficult to reach windows, sash windows, windows with wooden window frames etc which can usually take longer.
If you know the house then a fixed price on a leaflet is a quote which is a statement of fact, and is more likely to grab their attention even if you add a provisor that conservatory cleans are extra. The best leaflet that appears to get the most reaction is a targeted leaflet, where you quote a price for the job. You may not get a call, but it will certainly have an impact.
But the best way is to knock doors and speak to people.

I'm just putting together a flyer and i had an idea of putting a flyer together with an average price amount amount on it.
I too have put prices from... before and not had much response. I thought by adding an average price amount it would sound more realistic.
Either that or i was gonna price up peoples houses and stick it down on a flyer. Never done it before and thought i may give it a whirl. Sometimes you may get stung with whats round the back but most of the time you can gage roughly whats there accurately enough.

Yes there's nothing wrong with putting prices on at all and nearly all custys will stick with you as long as your doing the job right.. I don't think I've ever lost work due to this..
