Title: black run marks down a building - slate?

Hi fellas,

Got a quote to do, big black run marks down the front of a house, apparently its staining caused by slate?

Never heard of that ever.. was thinking HF and a wash down?

I was just curious if anyone has come across the slate thing before or is it just normal staining over time? the run marks are very prominent. they look like stains from leaky drainpipes but they are no where near the downipes..

No mate, just had a quick look on google streetview but not sure exactly what house it is. im off to see it and do a test on friday, just wondered if anyone had ever come across some kind of staining due to water run off from slate..

I was watching a youtube vid from america, it's quite common over there, think it's a form of black algae, not sure though

Cheers mate, looks kinda similar except the staining is on the front of the building, looks like run off from the roof, ive got some hypo and hf with me, ill give it a shot..

It was just black mould like ya said.. running from crappy fake sandstone coping on the roof...easy peasy..
