Just wondered if it was worth advertising on here - with a web link in my signature or something similar, like a banner maybe? Is it worth it? is it free?
Its just that I saw one in the 'database for a mac' thread - the Anthony bloke has one, and I thought that looks a really good idea - it must be quite cost effective for him advertising his software? Does anyone else on here do them?
I fancy advertising my hot tubs but only if the price is right 8)

you can't self promote but perhaps are allowed to add a signature for what you provide and not go on about it. adding signature is free just click the profile link at the top and then signature.
advertising on here isn't so the banner the losers without adblock see at the top of this site is paid for.
no point advertising anything other then something we'd want.
is it worth it? for hot tubs i highly doubt it. for cleaning services the same. for insurance for cleaning companies then possibly, though if i was looking for insurance i'd start a thread and get opinions but i know others will be taking in by the advert.

with a web link in my signature or something similar
Your signature link will work as far as people clicking through is concerned but will not be visible to search engine spiders.

The answer is to contact Forum Admin and find out costings and rules
If the Anthony bloke is promoting a product on his signature he probably should not be doing so but I have asked for clarification, as one member did claim to be paying for a promo link in his signature
Below is a a reply I received from Forum Admin when I questioned the rules a few months back.
Everything on the forum should carry on as normal, advertisers know that they are not allowed to post topics or posts advertising or pushing their products.
The sponsor a board section is purely just an advert link to the sponsors site and does not mean that they contribute or are allowed to push their products.
We have the specific avenues for this, so the rules still apply the same for topics and posts!
Thanks,
Mitch.

But if it is his business surely he is able to
after all you have a link to ideal blinds
-
Hector
I was just coming to that. That link is just to promote my blind company on Goggle
Jason does one for holidays in Portugal for instances and Ian Rochester has promoted his bikes for years long before you joined as Hector.
If he is putting in a link in the hope of improving ratings on goggle and selling the product in his area hot tubs which has no relationship to cleaning personally I see no problem
Where the problem arises is with promoting cleaning related products or software
It could be a minefield as there are loads of affiliate programs we could all sign up to .
If the link is intended to make money from members of the Forum it could be questionable and may require payment
-
frrom what i understand google doesn't see signatures in this forum so it's pointless, nor do they see links in posts if i remember correctly as it's just displayed as plain text, so they see www.greencleansolution.co.uk as a word not a link like this www,greencleansolution.co.uk which is meaningless
-
You could be correct
-
I think everyone should have link in their signature it tells you something about the person posting. If you look at all the people who use aliass to cause trouble none of them can put a link.
Look at the author of this topic, no link, no filled in Profile who is 'Mark Laurance' you could be anyone but if you put a link to your 'hot-tub' business or any other business you may have we would know who you are.
Do you have a website?
-
You.......... Mr Halliday are a very perceptive man...
;D ;D
-
He says what I think
Easter Bunny we noticed your affiliate link ;D ;D ;D ;D
Clarification from Forum Admin
Advertising in links is not allowed if it's for financial gain selling actual products. We wouldn't allow someone to advertise their hot tubs in their signature without payment, however we would allow someone to advertise their carpet cleaning business and infact promote this as it lets others know more about that poster!

So what's the difference between selling blinds and selling hot tubs?
Think you are on a sticky wicket with that one Ian.
Just sayin. :-*
-
You beat me to that one Wynne
and it is a very good question
;D ;D
-
Have you ever tried to have a bath in a set of blinds? ;D
-
The difference is you can actually buy the special offer hot tub in the colour advertised. ;)
-
The difference is I do not sell the blinds off the Web Page
But apparently it does not help Goggle so I will remove Ideal Blinds

Hector to be blunt you just like having a laugh
