Hi Guys,
got a call today from a WC looking for a subby, but he needed one with CSCS card, which I haven't got. Never needed one, but got me thinking its worth getting one, online exam £17.50.
Anyway, the question is, what qualifications and certificates do you have, or have come across that is useful or a necessity ???
Goochie.

good question mate!
should be an interesting post

I have cscs but never used it apart from to quote a job I never got, I wasn't allowed on site without it
apart from that nothing. well to do with window cleaning anyway

At age 16 I got GCSE's in English, History and Geography - which is why I can spell properly the capital of West Germany which was Bonn!
Useful eh?
Oh and about six months before CB radio became legal I did a Radio Amateurs exam for operating practices and licensing etc and got two passes with credits - that was really useful.
I think I am the only person who was a Financial Director and Company Secretary (for eight years) who never had a single exam result in Maths or Accountancy!
;D

I left school at 16 in 1978 with GCE 'O' level passes in English Literature and French, and a CSE Grade 1 in Spanish.
All this meant was that I could read in 2 languages 33 years ago. As I failed in Maths and English language, I couldn't even count in my mother tongue. ;D
John.

I don't think they had GCSE's when you were 16, Gold; they were introduced in 1987.

Next year I shall have a certificate showing I've completed a two-year foundation course in Gelug Buddhism.
Does that count as a qualification?

it all depends how far you want to go? in terms of expansion
domestic work i feel is enough for me,no invoicing, good cash flow,no contractor asking you to go back three times so they can bleed you dry,no invoices lost can you send it in again?
i have done the impact 43 course but to be honest because it was free otherwise i wouldn't have bothered
just my opinion

We have cscs and the city and guilds NVQ in window cleaning. Oh and first aid at work.

It's an Empty qualification. (There's a bad Buddhists joke in there somewhere, a bit like the schizophrenic Buddhist who wanted to become two with the Universe).

James do you find they help?
Do you get asked for them much? if so on what type of jobs? Building sites ect??

Dave of St Ives has posted about this subject; he uses them - not in case he's asked - but to market his business. He tells people he has qualifications; at least from memory I'm sure that's what he does.

Quite right Tosh! I mean GCE's and CSE's or more accurately GCE (in the singular) and CSE's in the plural! Though I did start A level English and dropped out to work in my Uncle's ironmongers shop, out believing Chaucer and Shakespeare to be boring and irrelevant!
I wish I knew as much now as I did then ... ;D
