Title: Television Advertising/Marketing
Post by: L.Doubtfire - The Blade Runner on August 31, 2011, 06:33:51 pm
Has anyone ever thought about advertising their company services
Etc. on television ?
Perhaps it`s only for and viable for the `big fish`and `major players`
Like possibly the leading franchise operations like Chem-Dry,Rainbow,
ServiceMaster etc .etc. ???
Each franchisee would in theory `put into the pot`in their allotted area.
They could go nationwide, but I suppose single operators it would`nt be
Viable.
What are members general views and opinions on this ?

We had a Carpet Cleaning Company who advertised on the Radio recently. I received quite a few phone calls, because it reminded people they needed their carpets cleaned ;D

It will work , IF ,,,,,,,,,,,,

1)The ad is a good one , not just a vanity ad .

(for home services the most effective are the ones with a real person ,,,, friendly Derek the cheery cheeky carpet cleaner, like the autoglass ones , or the british gas ones, or the tesco home shopping ones, people need to have trust which is the biggest factor inviting someone into the home.

2) Enough people get on board and stump up the cash to make it viable,  there are 86 counties in the UK , and some have said that there are 8-9000 carpet cleaners in the UK which means that each county averages 100 carpet cleaners, I do not believe this I think the figure is nearer 4000, and probably less than 20% would join up .  So it would be viable for sure , it is a case of convincing everyone to join up.

I agree with Jason mainly here.Ian is possibly thinking about
Small companies or man operations etc. etc.
It would be for the `major players`like the franchise operations
Like I mentioned in the original post, unless someone could
Put something else forward ? ???

the biggest problem would be getting organisers as most people are busy with there own business
however if 20% of carpet cleaners where in the ncca or another organisation maybe alltech network then it would be possible as costs would be reasonable

Last time i went to a day out at Alltec about three years ago

Robert Saunders was on about forming a Group so powerful to get into places like John Lewis , like chem dry and service master do and get labels on the furniture etc etc  did it happen? not that i know off
 Taken From Dor to Dor
leaflet distribution fits for some products better than other media. A local Pizza or fast food store, window cleaning, gutter cleaning or new patio company would all benefit just as well from a leaflet as a TV campaign costing much more. Somehow the person receiving the leaflet expects this form when it comes to buying it now - the TV is more for awareness and respect - the actual pick up the phone and call for a pizza is better done with a leaflet through the door.

Good conversation is also still in vogue - and likely to stay so.

A generic booklet was an idea I had a while back, one that gave all the information that would educate the public and perhaps gently persuade them to have their carpet cleaned by an experienced C/C.

Perhaps there could be a blank for the Carpet Cleaner to stamp their business details/contact numbers. Then they could deliver them.... Just an idea....

Hi Guys

I don't wish to be too critical of the TV campaign idea but the figures quoted are based on hope rather than experience,

TV advertising is largely generic so many will benefit BUT only a few will be be prepared to pay and this will be prohibitively expensive.

Cheers

Doug

you would be better off doing product placement some thing like a carpet cleaner going in the Queen Vic and doing the carpets to remind people about getting carpets cleaned,  how that would filter down to C/Cers is for another idea to brain storm

This is the best idea I've heard on here for ages, go for it.  ;D

Or YOU could get YOUR local business an editorial piece in the local paper and flog it to death on your websites, leaflets, sales presentaions etc. And do the same thing when you get a 15min interview slot on your local radio station and then drop into the conversation your web address 2 or three times, record it, put in on your website, your .........

And who knows who's reading local papers and listening to local radio, especially when you have an angle. Watch the news in the morning most of it is FREE ADVERTISING for someone.

Also, this type of self promotion gets around 10 times more response because it's an implied endorsement.

Forget some big national campaign doing your marketing for you, it's a pipe dream. Get out there yourself.

Unfortunately Wynne hasn't got off his arse and done any of the above though yet.  ;D

You are right

I also sell blinds and I say to customers these are similar to the one in the Cafe or somebodies house in such and such a soap. Interestingly people often want the ones they have seen .
