Hey all.
Was wondering if any one could help me out. I have been asked to clean a flat that has got cat fleas. I have thought of using insecticide (suggested by previous posts). The problem is they have 2yr old and a 3week old kids and was wondering if this is safe to use with them around? if not has any one got any other ideas?
Thanks
Paul

Colin,
Where did you get that information?
On CIU ages ago. Apparently someone took a microscope and put some M Power on some fleas and it ripped them to bits... But I did read it on here....

I've used this product successfully on several jobs http://www.petsathome.com/shop/bob-martin-silent-pump-action-flea-spray-145ml-for-cats-15376
Spray the whole carpet with it. Give it a nice long dewell time. Then clean the carpet as normal.
For an average sized living room, you need to use the whole 145ml bottle.
Its an annoying task to do but works.
Having said that, the cat also needs to be treated and this is best done by a vet!! lol

This would be a tough job..
Fleas and little children...how can people live like that...they should get rid of the cat...
-
Personally I would tell them to get a qualified pest controller in who knows what he's doing and has access to products that work.
Another option is to go to the vets and get the cat on Frontline combo which is POM. Combo also stop the eggs from hatching thus breaking the cycle.
Clean and sanitise the carpet for them but if they think you will cure the flea problem they are going to be disappointed.
Colin, it probably drowned. ;D

Why the cat???????? :o
get rid of the children much cheaper in the long run.... ;D

Id go with wynes post and stop the cycle with the eggs as the fleas will die off.

Do you advertise pest control? Jeez how much do people want included FFS
They either want their carpets cleaned or they want a pest control service.Have they asked for all soft furnishings aswell as the little blighters will be in there too ;D
As others have said, cleaning is only a temp measure in this situation, they need to de-bug the moggy and get rid. Then deep vacuum for days after doing so.

I have resorted to using smoke bombs, or rather, I have provided them for customers at their own request. Nowadays I tend to let the customer get their own, with my only part being giving them the link to the website. They then buy their own and I come in a week later to do the clean.

I have been carrying out pest control for years now (flying insects, lavae, beetles, not rats).
For heavy infestation Ashbys Insecticide is very effective
For anything up to an infestation I could not recommend M Power enough.
It really does kill most problems in a few minutes & the over-spray that you'll always leave behind is good for about 14 days.
My chickens suffered red-mite last year & I used to use a DEFRA approved product which stank & had limited effect. I used M Power (cold @ 1:200) & it took just 4 minutes for the poor chickens to relax & the mites just fell off!
For fleas I use it in a small fogging machine & to date have never had a call back!

Thanks for the advice lads and lasses. 8)
I have put forward what Wynne suggested
Regardless of the advice
There reply was "we have got rid of the cats so we no longer need it need it cleaning" "We are going to use undiluted Amonia solution through out the house"
Surely Amonia solution and kids dont mix :-\

You couldn't make it up :D Leave them to it and just keep an eye on the local papers for when the storey runs with 'Four people hospitalised after inhalation of amonia.'

Sounds like those poor moggies deserve a better home anyway. :(

john bolton recently told me that mpower will kill the fleas, and adding solu-boost will kill off any eggs that that m-power wont kill. only issue is if the cats got them still they will be straight back.
-
spray the cats with it too then :P

I liked the clever science bit and is eco friendly too.
From what I understood the release of the oxygen in the products is what kills the fleas and eggs. They literally get gassed to death with oxygen.
John explained it much better and used some long technical words (he's got a beard) but I think that's the gist of it.

Did he tell you where he got this information? Is it based on any research?
