Title: Stand alone
Post by: mlscontractcleaner on August 25, 2011, 08:31:48 pm
Hi all.

I have a question that I'm hoping you full time carpet cleaners will give me a honest answer to.

I've been running a contract/window cleaning business for twenty odd years and do a few carpet cleans each week. These come from existing customers and friends / family of existing customers.

I feel that, although this is okay when mixed with the other work, I could be doing a lot more if I pushed it more. I am thinking of advertising it as a stand alone business instead of simply including it on my window / contract cleaning literature.

So, what form of advertising do you lads find most efficient and ( I can't believe I'm asking this ) what sort of hourly rate should I be aiming for when quoting a job????

I know if someone asks that on the window cleaning side the ££££'s vary dramatically depending on where in the country the answers come from so is it similar in the carpet cleaning world????

I've been thinking of doing this for quite some time but I guess laziness has stopped me; being content with the comfortable living I earn instead of striving for the very comfortable living I could be earning.

Cheers lads and lasses.

I think the problem is that this question or very similar gets asked every 2-3 weeks?

And as far as your questions go, you'll probably find so many contradicting answers as to not be of any help whatsoever! I've only been doing it a few month so I'm in no position to help at the moment, sorry mate.

We have the same thing on the window cleaning side but we usually answer the question.

Oh well, maybe window cleaners are a friendlier lot lol!!!!!

for advertising try a stand alone web site for price then really is up to you I aim for £30 per hour from parking the van to pulling away

...and I wouldn't get out of bed for that!!

It really is extremely varied.  Factors include the type of service you provide, your geographical area, and the type of customers you want to work for.

Your best bet is to find a willing experience carpet cleaner a little way away from you who'd be willing to let you come out with him for the day to get a feel for it.

Oh and by the way this question gets asked pretty much daily, rather than every few weeks, so you'll have to excuse the rest of us if we know where the search button is and you don't :P

Think about it, if we start spouting off at how we run our businesses, people in our own area can see what we've wrote too.

I know for a fact that we have lurkers, which is why I tend to dish out duff information ;)

;D
