Title: Spiders
Post by: amayze on August 23, 2011, 09:42:33 pm
Can anyone recommend a product that will help to keep spiders away?

I clean an Indian restaurant in an old pub, did all the windows and the signage, yet ten days later, it looks like I've never been

why would you want them to stay away, it means they need cleaning more often ;) you are in business to make money, not help the customer save money

I understand that but tell them they need cleaned weekly ;) to keep it up to standard you provide, but you will probably not get far with an Indian on making them understand that

I get your problem, but it isn't your problem it is the customers problem, let him search the web for anti spider spray, don't even stress out on it just tell him nothing you can do and either he pays for more frequent visits or has spiders everywhere, then it his choice ;) we are window cleaners not pest control officers

spiders and all insects hate WD40 . it kills them if they walk on it  ,anything that is petr-oil based is disaster if you are an insect

I have found that they are none too happy when they come into contact with Fairy Liquid.

You could also put  a conker at each end of the window sill.  :)

Spiders smell with their feet and they dislike vinegar.  Neat vinegar disolves their bodies.  Try adding a drop of white vinegar to your water.  It will leave a slight trace and spiders will avoid.

I spray it along my bedroom window sill and it seems to keep them at bay.

As an experiment, I sprayed neat vinegar on a very large spider and it disolved into a soggy mess - I felt really guilty afterwards  :'(

Now I have a spider phobia and I'm sure all his mates are out to get me.....   :o

I have a spider living outside my back door. I have been feeding it on dog fod for months now. It is huge and has a nice shiny coat.... ;)

tfr seems to kill them, I noticed today that some of them had died after finishing off some soffits.

rolled up newspapers seem to do the trick as well.

Yuk!  I hate the bloody things and yet many people really like them.  Some of the UK spiders can give quite a nasty bite - a lot of people don't realise that.  One of my customers was bitten by a medium size one and his hand blew up twice it's normal size and he was in hospital for a couple of days.

Last year Deal had an infestation of Wasp Spiders - they really can bite and look nasty too. Had a couple crawling on my after cleaning between a conservatory and garden fence.  The customer saw them and knocked them off.

customer of mine was bitten by a house spider , youngish woman, the wound would not heal and in the end had an area  around the bite cut out of her leg. she cant work properly due to feeling tired as a side effect of the bite . nightmare

Come on guys - they are only spiders. The one we were weary of in Africa was the Black Widow spider whose bite could be deadly to vunerable humans, but they were not aggressive, so only bit if they were under threat. The only real danger with a Black Widow was the male counterpart who usually gets killed and eaten by her after mating - nice!

By far an large they were treated as friends, and the only time you removed old cobwebs inside your home is when they got a bit dusty - otherwise they trapped mosquitoes and other insects which were potentially more dangerous.
