Title: Which stainguard?
Post by: Steve Weatherley on October 24, 2005, 10:29:46 pm
I'm cleaning a cotton linen suite tomorrow with HWE and customer has asked me to stainguard after the clean. Which type of stainguard would be best to use......solvent based or water based?

Steve,

If you are going to use solvent based then you will have to dry the suite first.

Water based can be applied when still wet.

How would it affect the suite if I applied solvent based whilst still damp? I was told by Ashbys when I did initial training that if you apply solvent stainguard it aids in the drying time.

Steve,

I think you may have some confusion.

A solvent based protector will dry quicker because it is more volatile and has a lower boiling point.

However if the suite is wet the solvent will not penetrate and a very poor bond will be formed.

Cheers,

Doug
