Post by: markpowell on August 16, 2011, 08:25:39 pm
Has any body else been getting paid cash alot more lately?
I used to get 50% cash and 50% cheques, but since the cheque guarantee cards went out of circulation a few weeks since nearlly all cash, sorted.

ha ha
i'm in text talks with an EOT customer as i type, she wants to pay by cheque and i said no, cash only, now she's asking if she can defer payment till friday, again i said no but i can rebook her for friday if that will help. waiting for the cancellation text next. ;D

oh the thread, errrr same i think. some cash some cheques but only cash on EOT's as i insist on this, once bitten, twice shy. ;)

Umm, I've been too trusting over the years and the other week it happened.
EOT cheque that bounced and they've moved to France, but she got in first with telling us by e-mail before the bank sent us the cheque, so it's been resubmitted and let's hope.
But I think I'll have to bring in this cash only for EOT. Generally I don't like cash because of the high rates when paying it into the bank.

very rarely get paid by cheque now and certainly do not hand over a paid invoice without cleared funds ( cash or debit card through mob terminal ) for EOT jobs.

Funny you should start this topic Mark, I have noticed the last few months more folding stuff.  Didn't think it was anything to do with guarantee cards, as most of the cheques I receive are over the limit anyway.

Neil, you pay cash into the bank? ;)

Used to in the days when we had a window cleaning empire (sold that since), so I know the rates are extreme for paying in the folding stuff.
Now only take cheques or do bank transfer. ;)
Would go down the card terminal route but that's still too expensive.

Any cash payments made to me I mark down in my books as personal drawings and stick it in my safe at home.  Excepting foreign holidays, I haven't used a cash machine for about 5 years!!

Large increase in the Filthy Lucra I guess people think because they can't guarantee a cheque then they have to pay in cash.

I much prefer cheque as Mrs prefers cash!

Never pay cash into business account.
Just started getting charges so will be
using it as little as possible.
Everything just about cash apart from
council work which is BACS.
Since I started in 04/08 never had more
than 2 or 3 cheques a month.

what card terminals are you guys using and how are you finding them?  it's a fact of life for us all but as yet i've managed to avoid a merchant account and card fees.

who has cash in the house? I must get over 80% cheques

did a job today and they said they would go to the bank to get the cash.... I said just write a cheque. as long as i get a few cash jobs a week to act as petty cash.

I don't mind cheques and really prefer them as cash tends to get spent

i have been using a terminal through handipay (they use streamline for the merchant account )  for 6 months now and find it great most customers who would of paid by cheque now pay through the terminal .   when adding up the cost of the terminal and the charges for debit cards it makes no diff between what i was paying to put cheques in the bank  , with the added bonus of not having to run to bank or worry about bouncing cheques.   plus because i can take payment over the phone its great for when i am cleaning second homes where the customer is not present   saves having send invoices and wait for cheque or bacs payment .

plus witht he option of paying by cc   ( i charge the 1.5 % fee )  people have more done and whack it on the plastic .
