Title: Merlin 720 V 4040
Post by: Ian101 on August 15, 2011, 08:58:15 am
They both produce pure water but is one better than the other ?

Building another static system and currently run a boosted 4040 as tap pressure is 30psi  :(

HF5 needs 50psi as does Merlin 720 so either way it will need to be boosted.

Best price on a Merlin 720 I can see quickly looking at web is GAPS @ £239 .... anyone know cheaper ?

I run a 4040 HF5 on a bit under 40 PSI (unboosted) .  I wouldn't say it's optimum performance but I currently get about 80 litres an hour at around 015 TDS.  That tends to improve to about 100 litres per hour as low as 008 TDS after changing pre-filters.  I can get a better TDS if I tweak things but it uses more waste and I'm on a meter.

Hi Ian - I've been using the Merling for nearly 2 years with booster pump - it's excellent for quick water - i make nearly 2000 ltrs overnight - but it is more wasteful so if your on a meter bear that in mind.

i believe the 4040 membranes are less wasteful and produce better quality water ( so less resin used ) BUT they are more expensive to put together.

that merlin price is excellent - remember that the carbon pre-filter should be changed every 6 months AND the recommend having an additional carbon pre filter if making large ammounts of pure

HF5 needs 70 PSI, Merlin needs 50 PSI. Replacement HF5 from Ionics is roughly £150.

My hf5 produces 130 lph at 40psi at 001 tds from 250 tds mains

To clarify, my tap pressure is 60psi with 40psi at the membranes, the remainder going to waste.
