My van has started blowing blue smoke
That's not good is it :(
Anyone know what that'll be?
piston rings maybe.
-
Is your van a turbo?
-
it must be burning oil
-
If its blowing blue smoke its burning oil :-\
-
what age is the van , could be head gasket .
-
It's a deeply unlovely LDV Pilot non turbo 03 only 60k miles
I always thought head gasket was White smoke? But I don't know much about these things
-
sounds to me its your piston rings when they go oil goes through
-
i had renault kangoo last year and it was the pistons and first thing i was recommended was an engine flush and oil change as the pistons might be sticky and use 'FORTE TOP END TREATMENT''.if it's still doesn't cure the problem than it might cost you more than it's worth
-
we had the same prob last week (twice) did the flush ,but also told that because we do so many short start stops,we had to take van on a 4 mile journey with the revs really high ,in third to give it a good burn out .it has worked :)

That van of yours has the trusty 1.9 Peugeot engine in it, which was a very good engine.
If is just suddenly happened it won't be because of wear - although a broken oil ring on a piston is always a possibility.
Although I'm not an expert on these things, there is an electronic crankshaft sensor mounted on the bell housing that can get damaged or can fail. It is used to send an electronic signal to the ECU. If there is an issue with this, then the ECU does tell the injector pump to fuel more diesel.
Have you had any work done on the clutch as there are 2 pins on the flywheel that activate this sensor. They are opposite each other. By removing the sensor, you should be able to see one pin at a time if you turn the engine over. Best way to do this is to put a spanner on the crankshaft at the front and turn it very slowly, looking through the sensor hole. The ignition must be off.

Sounds like it's already chosen the next pope.

not always true about the oil, and believe it or not, but generally white or blue smoke is not rally that bad compared to black smoke, 9 times out of 10 blue smoke or white smoke with a tint of blue is a bit of antifreeze getting in, stand behind the exhust and smell, it will have a slightly sweet smell, i bet this is what it is
-
I've stuck some Diesel Magic in it, wil run it through a bit, see what happens.
I like these vans 4th one I've had. The Pug engine in them runs well, usually.
And because they are ugly no-one else wants em so they're cheap!
Cheers for replies
