Is it possible to take card payments without a terminal, maybe online or using a phone app?
-
yes dave, online would be bank transfer and on a phone would be similar to a terminal but with an app, you'd still need a merchant account though with the phone app. it works out quite expensive TBH. but phone payment is deffo the future, card terminals will soon be exstinct, wouldnt be surprised if you could scan a card with a phone soon or text payments etc... technology is struggling to keep up with itself at the moment. and its very hard to decide which road to go down

Your right about phones scanning as they do it now in Japan
Thanks for Passing that suite over to me last week ;)

Card terminals are already being trialed in this country to accept payments by holding your mobile near to the terminal, you put money onto the phone as a pre-pay, pay as you go way and have that amount to spend on the phone.
Not sure about terminals becoming extinct though, dont think paying for your shopping by scanning your phone to the cashiers personal mobile phone at tesco will ever work, they will still need the point of sale terminals.

Already available for the Blackberry and other smartphones, Im pretty sure it plugs into the mini USB, it also prints out customer receipt. Not available from high street banks, the last time I looked the tarrifs were pretty high but not rediculous. Its the way ahead I thinks!
