Both motors have gone on the machine this morning!! I've heard that they are tricky to fit yourself so any idea who can do them for me and likely cost?!
-
Why would both motors go at the same time.
What happened to cause this?
Is the pump still working ? i.e have you got power?
In all my time carpet cleaning, i've never had 2 motors
go Simultaneously. That seems suspicious.
If they have gone replacement is straight forward. The
only thing needed is to do them with the machine either
in the van, or up on a bench so as to be at an easier height.

Well one actually went on Tuesday and the other went this morning. Machine was working okay so thought I'd carry on until the weekend and then, well..... It's definitely the vac motors and not anything else. The reason I asked about ease of fitting was I'd read some time back that they were a bit tricky due to the way heater works on this machine; I'm no expert obviously! Thankfully the stand in machine was on hand to get the job finished!

The only problematic bit is removing the Perfect heat coils.
These are usually bag tied on, so get some long ones ready to go
back on.
1) Cut the ties, and undo the quick disconnect fittings. Remove the coils
still connected together.
2) Unscrew the 2 pipes connected to each vac motor exhaust.
3) Disconnect the wires to each vac motor, tape each set together so as
not to mix them up.
4) remove either or both vac motors, 2 or 3 10mm/3/8" nuts depending on machines
age.
5) Fit new vac motor gasket, and replace each motor in reverse procedure. Do not
over tighten them, i.e dont squash the gasket into submission.
6) replace exhaust pipes and tighten.
7) Replace wires, polarity is not an issue as they are AC motors, so the only one that
has to go to the correct place is the earth.
8) Re-connect the coil fittings, and bag tie the coils in place.

That's much appreciated; thanks! Is Amtech the best place to get them from?

A lot depends on which motors you have.
My machine had Imperial motors originally, which were
mounted at 2 points
Newer machines have the Lamb Ametek motors, part No 116859-13. 1200 watt
which you can buy from several places. Which mount on 3 points.
I had to make a steel bracket to modify the mounting points for my machine.

I use 117123-13 1500watt.

If you go with the 1500 watt motors, you will need to remove
the flange off the vacuum. an angle grinder carefully used on the
spot welds is the easiest method.

117123-13

The 117123 s are closest to the original Imperial motors as they are high lift.
Excellent motors, Aluminium body. Very good price.
