Quoted on a 7 thou + sq foot job today, thinking 2 days,on me own,mix of bonnet and extraction.
It was a bit daunting looking at the place,as it was so big.
Need to keep working.

Mark,
It is important not to think too much about the size of the job. It's best to break it down into manageable bites so that you are only focused on what you are trying to achieve in a day, or part of a day. Often the first few hours of a biggish job are the most challenging because looking at a job for quotation purposes is totally different to actually doing it. So the first few hours let's you know how best to do the job and what it will take to get the carpet clean. You also have to get the price right ;)

I will hopefully, not going to divulge that though.Quoted on day rates rather than area ;D
-
Mark,
You'll be lucky if you get it on day rate unless you're the only one quoting. Most people want to know exactly how much it is going to cost.

Dont do it by yourself, get a bucket boy.
-
7000 sq ft on ya own 2 days that's good going mate get it knocked off take the money happy days.
Best Regard Phil.

agree with simon unlikely to get a day rate if this is your first dealings with the client they will want to know how much for complete job. so make sure you accurately guestimate how long it will take you

That amount of work (roughly 700m²) is equivalent area to an average primary school. I've knocked out jobs like that in 2 days on my own, TM and RX-20, without breaking much of a sweat. That's the full monty as well - pre-spray, scrub with rotary and then extract.
Good luck completing within 2 days with a portable ???
I remember the last big job I did with a portable was about 850m², took 4 days and nearly killed me. I cancelled my Friday jobs and slept in till lunchtime!
-
My bad mate got calculations wrong i come up with around 3000 sq mtrs lol you'll p 650 sq in 2 days i do that in 4-5 hours and thats hoovering aswell.
By the way i use Dry Fusion great bit of kit mate.
Best Regards Phil.

Presumably with a 3ft wide vacuum cleaner and a 36" rotary?!!
Or is that two people working?
I bonnet cleaned 230m today in 4 hours on my own, and was going at a fair old pace with a 19" machine!
-
Me on me own mate, hoovering, Prespraying and cleaning the hoovers about a foot n half wide n the pads are 18".
-
One machine in each hand then?!
Wow.
-
Hi Mark,
I don't see how the job may be too big, unless the potential client requires the job completing in one day and you've got no staff/subbies?
-
Bump Bump Bump tryed that haha no mate genuine call for a free demo lol
Best Regards Phil.
-
Phil,
You should know that Jim Neal is the font of all knowledge and must be respected and obeyed, failure to comply will result in bankruptcy and possible loss of your property.
-
haha not taking the p mate just saying what i do using dry fusion 1 pad can do 20sq mtrs give n take throwing 85 degrees of heat out at the same time you don't stay in the same place for too long. You work north to south east to west go over a couple of times then move on JOB DONE maybe a bit of spotting.
Best Regards Phil.

Ah welcome back Simon, wondered where you'd been hiding!
Actually the penalty has changed in recent times. I lock you in a room and talk to you for 8 hours straight, forcing you to take notes 8)
Phillip I'm not doubting you at all, just amazed at your productivity! Like I said, I managed about 60m/hour today, it was very soiled but even so I thought I got it done reasonably quickly!
Maybe I will make that call...... :)
-
By my calculations this would be about 17 hours work.
Good luck trying to get that done properly in 2 days unless you have at least 2 helpers.
-
They are not bothered as long as it's not longer than 6 days,as they are not using the place ,it's council run,so 3 quotes will be tendered.I can manage that on my own in 2 days,I work methodically, and am reasonably well organised..
-
Why work on your own? Get a helper and the time saved can be used on other jobs
-
,so 3 quotes will be tendered.
So you're aware that cheapest will win.
I've got 120 chairs numerous settees and numerous other chairs to quote for on Saturday at a hotel. I've been told they have to get 3 quotes so the decision has to be made do I go with a decent price to me which means I won't get it, (a local TM user is already doing domestic carpets at less than £1/metre) or do I want the work and go at some hideously low price.
Decisions decisions. Quite busy at the moment so don't need to quote cheap work, but how can you tell what could be around the corner in 4 weeks time when you might be kicking your heels for work?
-
Whilst it's nice to bag all the money, having someone along to help out and cost it into the price is well worth it.
-
Get f in in !!! Got the job baby !! Even at my price !! Had to draw up a contract outlining what I will be doing, all good though, some good news at last ;D
-
Likewise. My hotel came good and we were chosen not because we were cheapest but because we submitted the full package (RA, MS, Insur, etc etc) which as she said "There was no need to ask anything because it was all there other than sorting out the date."
-
Nice one Mark.
-
Nice one mark.
Looks like your work paid off mate and am sure it will go well..
-
Been the best it's ever been Clinton !!
And it needs to stay that way,2 jobs today, and a language school to do tomorrow too, just as well as when the wife goes,I need to re furnish my house.
