Post by: g.brookes on August 04, 2011, 05:52:47 pm
hello chaps.  currently looking at getting my first van and was wondering how well protektakote works on plywood.  should i take the ply wood out or can i just whack it straight on?

Take the ply out,
Drill some holes in the floor as drains,
Protectakote the floor & then get some rubber matting to put over the top.

Yes, drill holes through the floor into the electrics and fuel lines, for 'drainage'.

Drill from underneath is the trick.

Hey...
I painted the ply wood with protectakote 2 1/2 years ago. Getting the 2 reels out many times per day has worn out the protectakote so the wood is rotting.  :o
So I am just about to cover over a section of the flooring with a piece of aluminium tread plate 1200mm by 750mm by 2mm {vw transporter} so as it is more hardwearing. £47 from ebay. hopefully I have caught it in time and wont have to reline the flooring with new plywood.
So get a rubber matt for when you put the reels down to help save the flooring....Or aluminium tread plate for extra hardwearing.  8)

why use protectakote , just another useless pointless expense , like gardiners brushes , that a lot of the sheep on here think they need

If replacing or fitting, use exterior grade plywood.
