Is possible to take home £500 per week window cleaning after tax and all other expenses are taken into account, just working normal hours 8 till 3.30 ish. Bearing in mind I live in South Yorkshire which seems to be one of the cheapest places in the UK to have windows cleaned. Or would a much lower figure be much more realistic?
-
you can in the south mate 8)
-
Take home? Maybe.
-
I know perhaps I ought to move lol
-
no chance m8
£200 if your lucky.

Equivalent of £34k(ish) per year so yes if you put in the work and price it right :)
-
In a word NO :'(
Not in South Yorkshire , a window cleaner is only 1 step up from a burgler :o
-
more chance of making 37k being a burgular ;D

Hang on a minute, you can't post stuff like that.
I thought you started out as a window cleaner and then graduated to be a burglar.
Get your facts straight.
-
are you lot kidding him on or what? £500 take home is surely achievable ???
-
Yes it is but as Helen points out you will need a TURNOVER of £34k so aveage of £708 for a 48 week year. Giving yourself 20 days holiday.
That may be hard to do in south Yorkshire though.
-
i'm in sheffield... easy wfp ;)
-
Looking at what some people charge I would say not. But the new customers i'm picking are getting charged more so if I had enough then perhaps.

;D and getting a few years consecutive holiday all inclusive ;D

46 weeks a year (allow for hols, bad weather, sickness etc)
Aim for £800 turnover per week
£800 divide by 5 days per week = £160 t/o per day
£10 average for each customer.16 per day. 3 custies per hour. 5.5 hours actual work (plus travelling).....part time work ;D
Also leaves time for extra's like conserv roof's, gutter etc etc :)
-
We aren't kidding GB. The round I've taken over averages £5 per house. Yes I know they want putting up and now I've been at it a few months I will but not by much. I know plenty of people round here paying less than £4 for a 3 bed semi
-
Hi Helen, At the moment I average around 20 houses per day trad. If I go wfp I would like to think I'll do 25. Perhaps then if I can pick up some customers averaging 7.50 I might get there.
-
How do you lot ever manage to live up norf, it seems so depressing
Some of the towns and cities up there would have me on the prozac ;D
-
just get the price right and you can make it , i was up your way in birdwell doing a few houses on worsbourgh rd all £10 . there is good work out there even in south yorkshire .
-
Tenner on Worsborough Rd's pretty good perhaps I need to be a bit more bold with my pricing. Is that monthly?

Try this......when you next do a quote add on a £1.00(or whatver) to the price, you can always come down. See option (C)
Remember, when someone says we used to pay £xxxxxxx
a) they could be lying
b) they may have had that price for years and years and years
c)they could just be trying to barter.
Your average of £5.00 is too low......average £100 per day...... get new custies in and go for higher prices to increase your average....then start to price increase on low ones or get rid.
-
Thanks for the advice next house I pick up will definitely look to be up around the £10 mark.

yeah monthly

Very helpful posts Helen, thanks very much.
I'm sure there are lots of us who can benefit from your help.
I'm currently averaging 2 x £10 houses an hour, but I probably do more than I need in detail and rinsing etc.
Tomorrow I will try and average 3 an hour.
I am underpriced now as I havent put them up at all! what a sinner I am and also I'm old!
The new houses I get I put in at £12 so thats a bit better but the competition has been picking work up at £14
All the best
Chris.
-
Easily achievable i think. Why not. i really do not see any obstacle for you to do it.

Hi Ry where are you in S.Yorks? Got a row of 3 bed semis all at £4 was going to put them up to 5 but thinking now I might make em 6. Reckon I will lose a few tho. Picked up 4 bed other day got 12 for that on a 6 weekly. My round is 3 weekly normally, thinking all new houses should be monthly that way I can charge more.
-
i,m in barnsley mate,i do all mine monthly,i,m going to start pushing the fascia cleaning but i,m going to charge a good rate from the start...

-
Thought all WMC's were cheap. Saw 2 lads cleaning it other day. Reckon they've got loads in Birdwell have all bar 6 on my street.
-
set that as your target then it will be possible mate, if windys go for it, they normally always get there in the end
-

problem is that you ve taken over another round. if you canvas your own work you can charge your prices. unfortunately its hard to buy work and put your prices up. the customers wont accept it.
-
Yep your right no way I'll be able to up prices as much as I like, already dropped a few that were ridiculous.
-
Hi DG.
If not said already (not read all posts ::))
Push out the frequency so it allows you to charge £10 minimum.
hope this is say 8 weekly and not 12 ;D
you will need more work obviously, go out canvassing as if your starting again from scratch, are you wfp?
tell custy your different as yoy clean frames panes and sills and windows stay cleaner for longer hence 8 week clean.
when you have alot of work convert existing custy's to 8 weeks.
lee.
Not easy i know but the best things aren't
good luck
-
Thanks Lee good advice. I'm on 3 weekly some 6 at mo.
-
it,s funny how a lot of people on here are saying you will struggle to do £500 a week, yet a lot of em are saying they earn £45 per hr,which means you should do your 500 by weds..... ???
-
Too right, gave one woman a price for an extended semi yesterday which i'm guessing is 4 bed. £8 was the price, she looked at me like I'd p***ed on her kids at xmas. Asked her what she paid her last windy £4 she said but had sacked him for doing a bad job. Said she can't get anyone to do them now, wonder why? Lol Anyway told her to see if she can get anyone cheaper if not give me a call :)

They are not the same people saying that though.
-
Surely, people charging these prices, have got to be dolers
You cant run a business on them prices
-
Dont just bin silly prices, talk to the customer and tell them that you can't clean them for that price and that you are now charging x amount you will be surprised at the ones that will accept the new increase if not what have you lost if you were going to bin them anyway.
I have just experienced the same with some work I bought, put them up £1/£2 on the first clean, some even said they thought they were cheap.
I'm next door in Sheffield.
-
I only binned a handful of 5 bed detached all hard to reach lead windows that I couldn't do safely alone. They were around £4-5 a go. I would need to at least treble the price to make it worthwhile can't see the custy accepting that. Already replaced them with smaller houses for more money.
