Not been in there for 5 years now, but people still say that is where they found us!
5 years ago they tried to increase our advert cost by 35% and that became triple what YP were charging......
Has any seen the Thompson advert o the TV lateley......can't say that I have :)

Is this a wind up? ;D

Hi Guys
I think it is a bit premature to write off YP, it will be around as long as it still makes money.
It's posssible Yell will cease to exist in it's current form because of its massive debts but the book is still profitable as a stand alone.
Cheers

Let's face it, only a very small percentage of our potential customer use a book to find someone.
The only exception to this might be those who live in villages where they have a parish mag, and you have to wait for a tradesman to die around here before you can even get into it.
So in answer to the question.....No chance

had a similar post about yell last week, but since their recent online advertising campagne, my yell enquirires have gone thru the roof!!!

Helen I've seen loads of their ads on telly. £300 all-inclusive to Tenerife, luvvly jubbly!
Simon I have averaged about 500% ROI on my very small Thomson ad in the last few years. The numbers themselves are very modest though!
For the sake of a few hundred quid it's worth a punt for a year. I think you get a different type of punter using Thomson compared to yellow pages, tends to be more pensioners or people who do "local" things!

Few hundre quid!!, 5 years ago they wanted £3k for a half page from us :o

Getting back to Thomson. I always advertise in it. My area is always a very small carpet cleaning section and at £100 for a small box advert it always pays its way.

We've been steadily reducing the size of our ad and now will got to the smallest just to maintain a presence for any cyustomers not hooked up to the WWW.

Helen I've only ever had a small monochrome advert, but when I took my advert out there was only me and one Chem-Dry display ad in the section. A couple more have joined in since but obviously you don't need to splash out on a massive advert if there's not really any others competing for attention.
I think it's 300 and something plus vat for the ad I have, and it makes a return. I'm not convinced making the ad bigger would generate sufficiently more money to justify it, therefore I'm keeping it the same for now.
Simon, how many other display ads are in the book for your area?
-
Jim,
Not that many, but most of them don't have a website, or have one that doesn't rank, so have no other choice.

Must be worth a small punt then, surely?

Hi Simon,
Seen your website list, do you have staff in Wigan and Southampton mate?

Hi Mark,
Yes, but only on an as required basis. The trick is to be big when you need to be big and small when you need to be small. ;)
