Bit of advice really lads please
I have this regular clean. Wants soffit, fascia and gutter cleaned-no probs
As part of that theyve asked if I could close the gap on the gutter as shown. Problem is its over a pitched roof. The driveway falls away, so anybody footing the ladder would struggle. Standing on the porch is a no go.
Only way I can see is either scaffold or leave it. What dya reckon?

If they want there gutter repaired (which they should do!) I would say the safest way would be for scaffolding over the porch not a tower scaffold, probably cost them about £100. If they moan about it leave it and let them sort it out themselves ;)

Hire a cherry picker for £100 per day dont push your luck on a ladder its not worth it if they want it done they gotta pay. Plus they are good fun ;D

There are more ways to skin a cat. Get the custy to commit to a very good price before you do the job and tell him how difficult can be. Dont do the job when they are home.
Then spray dw 40 on all THE SADDLE Brackets on the gutter to the left and remove the stopper left end. Then slide the length of gutter to close the gap and add a new end length to the very left side.

This is a lateral thinking job, see the bigger picture. I have just down a job the quote was 2300 quid I down it for 400 took 2 hours max. love it .Every could not see the forest for the trees.

How did that gap happen?
Push the gutters from left end or pull it out completely and insert a longer one?
-
Do the larger lower windows open?
I often access upstairs outsides by climbing through from inside.
-
Do you have a ten foot tube on your can of wd40 ???
-
use a ladder and dont be a tit.
-
The centre was a unsupported down pipe it often happens.Which just fell off.
-
use a ladder and dont be a tit.
I think that should be the trad slogan ;D.
-
Be a tit use a ladder. might be better.

No, you`re losing it. You`re supposed to sound attractive to ladder users and that doesn`t.
Unless you mean- might be better than the pole. That`s not catchy enough.

Even if you slide it across you'll still need to get up there to make a good watertight joint. Scaffold or cherry picker the only safe way.

I would just put water inthe right hand side to aid the fit as you can manoeuvre the gutter into place give the job I will show you quick/

You can't clip guttering together by wetting it and shoving it and hoping for the best.
-
Leave it.
Why would you want to waste your time doing a job you're not expert at and put your life in danger to save someone a few quid?
Tell them to get a guttering contractor to fix it and you'll be along later to clean their soffits.

I read down the thread and finally got to the answer I would have put.
Maybe recommend someone to at least show that you're interested?
-
you would get that with a pole
-
If they'll pay get a scaffold erected. Too risky otherwise. Besides I wouldn't touch it on the grounds that the house is too ugly
-
get a waterfed pole to it mate thats the only way to do it.

Thanks for the replies boys and girls.
Told her I'd leave it and recommended a gutter installer. She was fine. Still wants me to clean the lot though for a tidy sum
Happy days
Thanks
Steve
