Title: Lost Topics
Post by: Simon Gerrard on July 26, 2011, 02:15:40 pm
Ian,
I'm glad you've decided to act against some of the more dubious posts. But locking topics? Why not simply remove the posts that you think are OTT, that way the sensible ones can carry on a quite legitimate debate. By locking, or deleting a topic you are punishing everyone and yet do nothing to curb the unsavoury posts of the few.

Are you now saying that the topic on Groupon is a banned subject? If so, can you tell us what other topics we cannot debate?
I think you are being a bit silly with this and totally inconsistent, perhaps you're just trying to beat your chest and playing daddy.
Why not start a topic, or sticky spelling out what is acceptable and what is not and then apply the rules by deleting the posts of those who transgress.
Ban me if you want but I think you're being rather silly.

Once more I agree with you

people will start to talk about us soon    :-* :-*

Simon

I do not believe in bans unless it is people delibratley promoting other Forums , or deliberately causing trouble.

I do not think there is any need to be insulting

But Banter is Ok

After all Mike H  called me an Old Codger and Gary J thinks I was in the first World War  ;D ;D

Groupon   If you have some amazing new research on Groupon I have no problem but leave Jason out of it

I hate locking topics or deleting posts but it was you Simon who said we should have stepped in sooner over Joe

Ian,
You certainly should have stepped in sooner over Joe, but you didn't and he has now left us depriving us of his knowledge and insight.
If you hate locking or deleting topics, then don't. There wasn't anything wrong with the wrong group on debate other than some people went too far on Jason, as did some with Joe, but why not just edit out, or delete what you consider OTT.
What you seem to be doing is allowing things to get out of hand and then deciding the only way of controlling the situation is to deprive everyone of the opportunity, whereas you could have controlled the situation much earlier by editing or deleting offensive post something you can do very easily. You could go a step further and warn the offender, either publicly or by email about their behaviour, none of which requires you to lock or delete a topic, which you say you hate doing.
If there is something illogical in what I have just proposed then please spell it out, or start a sticky topic about what is and is not acceptable, that way everyone knows the rules.
Rant over ;D

Hi guys

Sometimes topics do get out of hand and my benchmark is when banter turns to bullying I will step in.

Moderators will never get it all right and I for one have been extremely busy these last six weeks, achieving my record three weeks out of six!

As for locking or removing topics, it is sometimes the quickest way to take the heat out as has been achieved..

I for one do not want to be 'daddy' to a bunch of adults but sometimes the childlike behaviour makes it necessary.

Remember we get the forum we deserve.

Cheers

Doug

It seems to me that you may have wanted to get rid of Joe Hatton, probably because of his Solutions connections, so you  did nothing to stop the bullying he received and yet you spring to Jason's defence, even banning us from discussing the Groupon issue and if it is ever allowed to be discussed again, leave Jason out of it.

The real problem is that there don't appear to be any rules and if there are you rarely enforce them so you end up with a lawless society, but every now and then the key stone cops turn up and all of a sudden there are rules but you don't punish the unruly ones, you punish everyone. It takes seconds to edit or delete an offensive post and a couple more seconds to write a rebuke into the post and leave the majority who have done nothing worng to continue the debate.
On that basis will you now unlock the Groupon topic?

Simon you talk such crap  your faked concern over jo leaving is disgusting really, you couldn't give a rats arse about Joe and are just using joes situation to do what you love best and that is to cause trouble, just like this  post..... another way for you to stir it up,

why don't you not bother logging on to CIU if the moderators actions bother you?...you stay  because CIU it gives you the biggest reading audience to spout your crap to.

but the saddest thing (apart from you over-inflated ego) is you think the average member of clean it up is too thick to see you for what you are .....a  Trouble causing has-been.

please don't see this post as bullying or insulting, its just sometimes i like to speak from the heart :-* :-*

Mike,

I could level all of the very same accusations at your door and they would fit it extremely well, were it not for the size of your head.

Joe and I did not get on particularly well, but I always respected him as a highly experienced fellow professional and I didn't like the way he was treated. I even emailed Ian Gourlay to protest at his treatment immediately upon hearing of him leaving CIU, ask Ian if you don't believe me. So to say that my concern over the Joe issue was false and was just show boating is complete and utter rubbish, but then we have come to expect that from you.

Remember he got caught posting under another name the guys a trumpet

the moderators get all the IP address' of members, so if that was a major biggie (sorry Simon) then they could stamp it out immediately by revealing all the alias'.

Hi Guys

Lets not let this degenerate into a a slanging match otherwise I will have to lock it ;D

Simon was caught out because he actually signed himself Simon on another persons account name, we didn't need I.P !

As I've said before the mods don't always get it right and if it offends anyones sensibilities then they don't have to log in.

For my part I was a bit slow on the Joe episode, mainly because I was extremely busy and because I thought he could look after himself.
In hindsight I would have intervened.

Cheers

Mike

Although you may not think it, a lot of the posts where you 'speak your mind' are also inflammatory. Just putting a little note at the end saying don't see this as insulting I just speak my mind cos I'm from Yorkshire won't wash, especially if you are lecturing others about the subject.

Mike,

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Ian Gourlay at 08:26 on 7th July complaining about Joe's treatment on the forum. Please feel to ring Ian and confirm this:

Hi Ian,

It’s a real shame that you locked the topic ‘Jaguar’ on CIU as you have deprived all of the people who respect Joe Hatton from saying their piece.
Wouldn’t it have been a golden opportunity to make an example of these disrespectful idiots by suspending, or banning them and thereby set some standards of behaviour which CIU desperately needs to remain credible. As it is they’ve got away with it – AGAIN.

Kind regards

Simon

If you look back to the Thread Jaguar, on page 7 you will see that I had a go at someone for disrespecting Joe. I complained about it privately to Ian Gourlay on the 7th July and if you care to read my comments since  you wil see they are entirely consistent and not crap, fake, or disgusting and perhaps when you have read what I have said about Joe, you will see fit to apologies for your comments.

I'm in Cyprus at the moment so getting a WiFi connection is haphazerd so please forgive see my delayed response......

Simon the fact you sent an email to Ian has no relevance on the fact you post to cause trouble,

we have both been on these forum from the beginning me as My self...... you as your self and all the alias you have used, I used to love it when you would have conversations with yourself.... how sad to have to use your an alias to back up your own posts,

but back to the point,  you have a pattern of starting post when topic are locked or people are banned you see it as an opportunity to stir it up and give it an example of how the moderators are heavy handed ,

look at the your post earlier where you accuse the moderators of orchestrating Joe leaving because of his solutions connections ::) ::),  pure fantasy.... just another of your made up accusation designed to cause trouble. You have a habit of just making things up to back up you stupid accusation, saying Joe was' Bullied' can you show any post where this happened? he was never bullied, but this doesn't fit into fantasy but don't let the facts get in the way of you using Joes leaving to help your trouble causing.

****I will have to continue this discussion when i get home as i keep losing connection***

Simon you posted as i was typing......   but I've read it all before, you using peoples leaving  to cause your trouble now its Joe tomorrow it will be someone else who will be used

we can speak'/type when i get back

BLOODY NORA ...................

I thought it was a heatwave but it's been the HOT AIR generated on here.

Nobody's perfect - except maybe Derek - and it's never a good idea to blow your trumpet too loudly on here as some one will always try to find fault with you.

I didn't know about Joe departing or what led to it. He is nearly as old as me and only speaks of things from personal experience which I believe is considerable.

When Simon first started posting he came across as a smart ass know all but has been a totally different character over the past year and been involved in pleasant banter and helpful posts

Some have a gift in being able to write what they're thinking in a clear and non threatening way which makes them come across as professional, pleasant and worth listening to.................Jim Neal, John Kelly, Doug Holloway, Ed Valentine, for instance. Most of us DO NOT WRITE THE WAY WE SPEAK and in many cases are NOTHING like the person portrayed in our posts.

Mike,
All you are doing is expressing your opinion about me expressing my opinion. The expression of opinions is, by-the-way what makes a forum work. You clearly do not like me or anything I have got to say about anything and that dislike of me skews every word I say into meaning something more convenient for you to believe, something you can then portray as sinister, or underhanded, because that is what you want it to mean so you can then broadcast your bitter and twisted view of someone you only think you know.
It strikes me as odd that the Joe issue was at the beginning of the month and I have been harping on about it ever since on various topics and yet you said nothing. Now though, at the end of the month, long after Joe has gone,  I start a topic that questions the actions of the moderators and hey presto, Mike turns up, mid-holiday to defend, not Joe, but your moderator mates. But laughibly, you do it in a fashion that is almost identical to the methods you accuse me of using, a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black  ;D
Have a nice holiday.
