Title: Those nice customers...
Post by: Viktor on July 25, 2011, 08:47:44 pm
I had a really nasty argument with a customer today.
Man and his wife in they mid 50s.

Few days ago I have priced they job.
- So it's going to be 12 quid if done 6 weekly with no extra charge for initial clean.
(windows has not been cleaned for probably 3 years, frames stained in black..)
- every 6 weeks ?!!!! not in a million year, I have never heard of that !!!!! doing every 6 weeks ?!@!!
-most of my customers have them done bla bla bla, but you can have them done every 8 weeks or even one off clean.

So I done the house today, went over with wfp 3 times !!! ]
-all done, as a first clean would you mind to check from inside your first floor windows if all dirt gone
-to check ? !! what's here to check !!! they not clean, I am not paying you for such a crap!!
(I go, check and some stains left on sills (won't come out with wfp) I get my ladders, chemicals, sponge, go over sills, they brilliant. while I do his wife comes back home.
went over with wfp again

- So now sills clean....
-(hubby) I don't know you speak to my wife, she goes mental, I told you she will.
-(wife) you are calling it's done ?!?!??!?! You left them all dripping !!!! They all in water, how can you do your job like this.
(i try to explain wfp, they won't buy)
-(Hubby) I am not paying you for your crap
-(wife) Why don't you do like everyone. How Can you see what you are doing from the ground.
-(me) madam, let me explain....
-I am not going to listen to all that crap !!! Look honey he leaves them like that and wan't to get paid.
- (Hubby ) Yes babe, yeas
-(Me) I don't care of your 12 quid, I just want to show you that they going to be clean.
I take them outside to show ground floor window which has dried.
- WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ?>! MAGIC ?
- But all others are still dripping, why don't you do your job properly like every one else dose
        doors slammed shut

ohh, I regret I have tried to do such a good job and applied chemicals to they sills...

Viktor I always tell new customers that WFP will leave the windows wet and they are left to dry naturally with no smears or smudges.
If you tell them this before you clean the windows they will know what to expect.

Did you hand them a letter before hand that explains WFP?
If not, did you explain to them about WFP, what to expect on first clean? To also explain pure water gets left to dry on the glass?
Did you tell them you offer a quality guarentee?

Normally I wouldn't suggest that someone behaves unprofessionally.
But that's normally.

They got what they wanted, in another three years they will pull it on another window cleaner.

Take a breath, swallow and move on

I have to agree with a previous post, EGGS+LOCAL SCALLIES=Satisfaction returned ;D

Some people are so ungrateful and do not think that they have wasted somebodies time and effort, the least they could have done was paid you and told you not to come back.

depends on your personality, but i say dont just let it go,or it might eat you up inside.  you dont need to burn the house down, just eggs later as suggested ,or bamboo sliver in the yale lock.

when i was working the other week,i saw a man sellotaping a bag of dog poo to somebodys door, thats another one to keep up your sleeve

Its times like this I wish I was still driving a taxi. I would say text me their phone number and I could ring them for you about four in the morning  from a phone box to discuss the matter.

After about the fifth time that happened in three months they will really wish they had paid you.

now heres a tale that hasnt ended yet .  A Bloke i cleaned his windows dirt cheap 3 years ago when i first started ,well he cancelled on the third clean and i let it go. Tother week he sees me other side of town working and hurrys up to me ,hes dressed in a fancy security guy uniform  ,with clipboard, asks me to go round his grans ,have a look ,then Liaise the job with him . Dont bother the gran as she is deaf as a post
Well,me  here thinks, sod that,i will go speak to the gran and get it sorted . so i knock her door but she is quite abrupt and has no interest in me cleaning, nor has she a grandson thats in security, nor is she deaf !
i have googled the blokes number and turns out he has a business installing security alarms. own website
im thinking i can arrange for him to travel to a faraway town to do a quote on a house that doesnt exist . if i time it right ,with a faraway job of my own , me and  my lad will be sitting in a cafe across the road ,having our lunch, watching  when he turns up to do the quote

These people are too stupid to worry about.
Yes it's annoying I've been there myself.
You're out £12 and the rest which is annoying.
You are clever enough to understand and explain how wfp works.
They are too thick to understand or want to understand.

You are smart - they are not!

It's not the money its the cheek of people thinking you are gonna let them off or speak  to you in the manner they did.personally I would have waited outside for him and chin him one.

Unfortunately, most of us have been stiffed by people such as these who are out to get a free ride. In all probability, you did a good job, but they saw an opportunity and you were the fall guy.

Don't let it get to you. Remember how good you are at your job, and as a person, and find customers who appreciate that. They are out there, and you will find them.

Best wishes,

John

If you lot get this wound up over a simple window clean I can see you getting called out to non-existent jobs to put a price in  ;D

Get over yourselves, just because someone doesn't come up to the expectations that you have doesn't mean you should behave like immature juveniles in the playground. It IS because of these actions that society views window-cleaners as idiots. Think about it. But then again is that such a good idea?

The good thing about it is you only get knocked for £12 how would you feel if you were a plumber and just put a new bathroom in for them?

£12 is nothing, annoying but not enough to change your life.

I know, it is nothing about that £12. It's just the fact, that they windows are clean and they facing me and telling that they won't pay me. But its fine, today I had at least 100 pound new monthly bookings (just because I have done a good job as all of them are word of mouth)

In fact two months ago I have done windows inside out and a cony for a lady. Bill 65 pounds.
She was not picking up her phone for two weeks, I made that job written-off on WCP. To my big surprise, she phoned last week, claiming she hasn't paid her bill and if I could give her my account details. Paid next day.
Point is that I did not feel that bad about 65 as no one tried to make a fool out of me...
