How many customers do you have before you feel you need to get another van and set up ?

Its not how many custys, its how frequent they are cleaned, how long they take, how much you charge etc etc.

I know how MUCH i am capable to make per day on my own, i am now getting to the stage where i cant keep up with the work and i am falling behind a lot so i will need to employ or expand with another van within the next 12 months at least.

nicely put Neal

many of these sort of questions are dependant on such things as type's of work, frequency of cleans etc..

Its not that either, its what the average value of each customer that counts. Last time I counted, about a year ago, the average of mine was about £24, just below. I have about 250 custards done at approx 6 weekly.

You can have 600 customers, but if theyre all priced at £10.00 is no good compared to the guy down the road whose prices average at £20..

could you make use of the van more
ie thoes times that are sitting idle
early evenings in summer saturday sundays commercials early mornings and take someone on part time
saves a lot of expense until it does come to much and you have a full months work in front for another van

I will definately employ part time first, i did when i was trad, i had someone 3 days a week for a couple of years but when i went wfp i realised i no longer needed him.

He was a good bloke who set himself up as a painter and decorator and has said he would like to work with me again so fingers crossed!

too many variables!depends on all the above things been mentioned.i have 340+ customers but i still have gaps here and there in my working month.i work on my own.i dont want to work flat out day in/day out so im happy with my customer base.

if you find that working full on mon-fri every week and your still behind at the end of the month then either trim your round or take on a part timer.

Matt, I have to disagree with its the value of each customer. because that would depend on what your after in your business model, I would prefer more customers and I have a very good reason for this.

Its each to their own Ian. I do personally believe that a round of well priced above average properties is a better round than lots of smaller ones. For logistical reasons and for re-sale reasons.

For more customers to sell extras to?

I find the better priced accounts ask for more extras anyway, ie cinny inside and out , and are willing to pay more, than  a ten quid house who doesnt wnt to pay more than 30 for conny roof

But just guessing
