Title: GutterCam
Post by: Scoop on July 23, 2011, 12:24:36 pm
I'm getting really cheesed off with mine. I think it was designed more as a baby monitor than a guttercam  ::) It works fine on white gutters but as soon as I move to black or brown the resolution is so poor that I feel like a surgeon looking at an X Ray. Plus hard to convince custys if they can't see what's going on.

I know there are some about for sale but I don't really want to spend another £200+. I've been looking at the ebay listings for bulletcam + wireless DVR and there are some systems that look like they may do a good job. Has anyone had any success with buying a cam and monitor that were designed for something else but work well on gutters? Ideally I want to spend less than £100 and then sell mine to someone with a baby  :)

I used my blackberry phone for a few gutters. I had to tape it on, but if you could make a bracket out of a good car phone holder, it would work well.

Advantages are you will always have your phone with you and its easy to either show the customer there and then or to put onto your computer.

I had an old couple ask me the other day to price up cleaning and clearing the gutters. There were no trees in sight, so i taped my phone to my pole, stuck it on video camera mode and made a video there and then.

Played it back and the gutters were empty .... customer was very impressed and i got the cleaning of gutters and fascias job.

taping your phone to a pole!!

try using a mirror if you dont want the cost of a cam.

we normally view the gutters off a ladder, then ladders away and vac out.

ladders handy as many customers gutters can need a little putting back together - norm the down pipe pops out etc...

Blue Frog. Nice idea, just not sure how you'd make sure you're always filming the gutter and not the edge or the roof. Maybe I'll give it a try. (BTW what happens if someone phones you whilst your phone is 18 ft in the air  ???)

Mirror, yes possibly,  ladders, yes, although doesn't show the custy. I have been cold canvassing with my pole and camera and have now lost a couple of warm prospects because the image is so bad. This is a gimmick that will work brilliantly with a better camera.

BFG sounds great. Have you tried it? Is it a good clear image? Is there any chance you could email me a pic? If it will do the job I need then yes, instantly, I will buy it.

This sounds like the future Bob  :) I don't suppose there's quad copter that will clean the gutters whilst it's up there by any chance?

Fantastic quality  David - even a great view inside the downpipe. Had a look on their website and it's not in my price range - I suppose you get what you pay for

Loving the Polish lettuce picker story  ;D

Bob, if you'd rather ring me about the cam then it's 07767 890443 - thanks

Laurence
