what should i be paying for a average to good website??
-
Costs vary wildly, some companies are as cheap as £100,.. others will charge £1000.
You'd prob want to spend at least £200 to get something decent though

thank you.
not knowing much about all this:
is that a yearly cost? etc ...
and
would that get my site on the first page on google? etc ...
-
That would be a design cost & is a once off charge normally. On top of that there's a small annual charge for the domain name & hosting.

Try Marcus at tattoo web design, he charges 15 pound monthly and the first three months are free to show you how good the site will rank -http://www.tattoo-web-design.co.uk/

any other costs involved?

Website should be a one off price
Buy your own domain name(s)
Hosting should be an anual price (wont really be much for a window cleaning website)
SEO (getting high in google rankings) - well thats an optional extra that may need doing from time to time

i paid 650 plus vat for mine. I have another one being designed at the moment. I would say its worth getting someone who knows there stuff as i get enquires every single day

is that with the same people that did your current one ?
-
IMO do not go with a free website they are free for a reason.
A website is worth investing in to get more work.

I would love to know this guys long term business model. do the people paying own the website ? could they move it elsewhere if they didnt want to pay the monthly costs , my guessing would be no but I could be wrong.
