Title: Upgrade - Portable
Post by: Paul H on July 21, 2011, 03:58:02 pm
OK I know there are thousands of threads but need up to date responses.

Have been using a single vac 100 psi 2nd hand 7yr old machine to get me started (about 6months) having problems now and need to upgrade (going to fix and keep this as a back up) - about 3.5k budget ( for new).

Due to vehicle issues (astra van size) size is issue so was looking at airflex / powerflite etc.. with the easy load facility (i.e loaded so the height is basically the depth when in vehicle so plenty room height ways).

also prochem machines mentioned..

Any sensible advice welcome please

I know many may disagree but you won't go wrong with
the Powrflite PX1350 Ph. It will be a revelation after what
you have been using. Coupled with a Wonderwand and
CFR handtool you will be amazed how much easier the
job is. I don't personally think any other portable can
compete with the heating system on these machines.
You will find drying times are drastically reduced.
It will fit easily in your van, and will save you some money
from your budget. I'm well happy with mine, and i came from
a Ninja with internal heat exchanger. ( a toy in comparison).

i agree with ajb    heat system on these machines is excellant   but i found the waste tank the worst bit about them hard to clean out and turbulance was an issue dragging waste through vacs   but all in all pretty good machine ( i had one for a while )   must be a real headache making your mind up what porty to get these days so many new machines out there  .  just dont be fooled by the sales patter  big words = big bullpoop.    i would get down to three possible machines and ask on here if you can come and have a look and chat about the machines .   some times your better off talking to people who use the machines everyday first  rather than who are selling them . you may have to travel a bit as your unlikey to et help on your door post

I have the Airflex Pro and although I have a van i did try to get it in the back of my car a vw passat estate on one occasion when my van was in the gargage and it would not fit  ???
So check before you buy.  You might also consider the Airflex Mini Pro which might be an option as it has the same spec as the Aiflex Pro just a smaller case just with a smaller waste tank.

i am making my own truckmount at the moment just as a bit of a hobby .  the old man has a new guy working for him on the farm who his tip top at engines.  I think its going to be the ugliest machine ever built and will take me ages to finish.

The Pow-r Flite PFX1350 previosly mentioned is a very tall machine so will go in without trouble when loaded flat.

We run 2 of them. They now come supplied with Lamb Ametek vacs fitted as standard too. The wonder wand will allow you to run high pressure without the need for loads of dry passes and the heating system will perform at higher psi than most out there.

If you dont think you need high heat and loads of solution pressure then the newly upgraded Steempro is definately worth a look.

If you can afford a little extra (£200 or so) get the Powerplus model with the increased capacity as the new pump has quite a demand. The machine its self isnt much heavier than the standard as its nearly all fresh air when its empty.

Couple more of them Scrumpys and Colin will be wasted :o

Not just the machine power you need to look at, there's size and weight to take into consideration.

Try before you buy. Cleansmart stock various machines, most of those mentioned and rated as a supplier. Restormate can't be far from you, I'm sure John could get you what you want. I went for the Airflex Turbo and have been very happy.

simon - i agree airflex looks and sounds impressive but the dimensions are slightly out of the scope of my vehicle ( which i cant upgrade) ( about 1").... the powerflite represents a significant upgrade from my present machine as I mentioned at the start ... and with the similar loading system to the airflex and smaller dimensions will fit nicely into my vehicle.....

Regrading restormate....yip i've spoken to John

I've told him his best option would be putting a Prowler on his roof rack but he just won't listen :)

An inch isn't a lot, according to most. I think the measurment might include the waste tank lid too which is removable, not sure. Good luck whatever you do, John will see you right.
