Hi guys,
Getting a bit more commercial in lately, and am looking to get my cards in for a cherry picker and scissor lifts. What kind of costs am i looking at for the courses just so i know im not getting ripped off?
Got a quote from a place who can do both scissorlift & mobile boom training, one day for both, £200 pp?
Also, with a cscs card, do i just go for the ''operative'' card, or should i do the working at height test aswell?
Does it make a difference or is it just more questions on your test?
The whole cscs card thing confuses me because there are all these different options..managers, working at height, blah blah..
Cheers,
Matt

That seems about right to me. I had 5 people trained on Scissors and AWP's and some Booms for about a £1K + VAT. I used HSS. Their training is excellent but not sure if there is a Training Centre in your area. You do of course have wages on top of that if the employees are PAYE >:( >:( >:(

Hi Kevin,
Its just for me, so i dont mind going without a wage for one day.. ;)
I got the local training sites of the IPAF website. There was no HSS mentioned. Do all the HSS training places provide IPAF?
Did your guys get trained up for all the different types in the one day?
-
I think all HSS Training Centres do it. Give e m a ring and check. My guys did Scissor Lifts and AWP's (Aerial Work Platforms) and one type of Boom. I think you need a different licence for some of the bigger booms but not sure mate. Best just check with the experts in case I have it wrong

Matt check the ILA scotland website if one of there training providers
cover it you get a £200 grant and dont pay vat when using the grant.
-
Matt, £175 + VAT is about right but be sure you're covering the correct type of lift. Most combine scissor and mobile boom but static are seperate and additional. You'll also have to do you safety harness training.
Well worth it and a nice change from working!
CSCS - all we have is operatives which cost £17.50 each then £25 for the card.

Jim,
Thanks for that mate, ive just had a look at their website and fired off an email..
By the looks of it, i can get the grant, and pay and extra £45 and get all three scissor, static boom and proppelled boom..
Cheers.
Ian,
Thanks for the info about CSCS, ill just go for the operative card..

That's rubbing it in a bit for all the British tax payers who aren't entitled to it. Good luck if you are up in Scotland but what the @ is going on when we can't get owt for nowt in England training wise.

The scots need all the help they can get with training ;D
(I'm Australian by the way)

More power to you Matt get it whilst it's there, I'm now of the opinion that you get what you can out of the government as they get what they can out of us- only I can't seem to get anything!! Does anyone know any cheap IPAF training South of the border??.....though I think I know the answer.

matt what trainer you looking at ? i wa son ILA site and saw a few come up

Not sure what the name of the training company is called,
Its the one that offers all three in one day. The scissor lift, the self propelled boom and the normal boom...
I think its 1a, 3a and 3b or something like that, for £245
Just have a look through the different offers. I still havent heard back from ILA, gonna give it till monday and give them a call.

i'd imagine one day for people with experience like yourself.
also which hose did you use when changing connector? my 10 m was leaking slightly yesterday at female connector. i just changed the hose so will check it again later when i have time.
-
No mate, i believe its a one day course for anyone, regardless of their experience.
Its all common sense to be honest when it comes to IPAF..
Iswapped ends on both the longer hoses.. never touched the fittings on the smaller one.. i never noticed a leak, but try giving the fittings a tighten up with 2 adjustable spanners, or use a bit of PTFE tape... when i changed the ends i used the tape..

yeah probs just needing nicked up.
Applied for ILA grant tonight.
