Fans are great for maintenance cleans but you need to rinse on the glass and I'm not sure you have a suitable brush fir rinsing on, you need a mono brush

  Why rinse on the glass?

I have been using fans for nearly 18 months now, lift of so spray covers width of pane and rinse straight down, done in one pass. If a wider pane rinse it in two halves.

You cant beat fans - rincing on or off the glass ( altho better on, and easier for those hard to get at windows )
i'd junk the pencils just adding weight and reducing flow to the fans.
