My fellow director Martin Holden will, on the 31st July he will take part in his 4th UK Iron Man triathlon. This involves swimming 2.4 miles in open water, cycling 112 miles and then running a marathon. Having completed the event twice before in 2007 and 2009 his entry this year is somewhat different. With the aid of a small team of other triathletes he is busy helping to organise for 20 injured service men and women to take part in the event, with support from Martin and his team. Many of these servicemen and women have lost multiple limbs
Martin has been heavily involved for the past 12 months in organising sponsorship, liaising with the event organisers and even designing the website for Team True Spirit - http://www.truespirit.org.uk (http://www.truespirit.org.uk) - which has been set up to raise funds for these brave men and women. Please have a look at the website to see for yourself the specially made bikes that they will be using
To compete in an Iron Man when fully able bodied is difficult enough, to do it with missing limbs is just unbelievable. Whilst I don't want to look like I am coming to you lads (and ladies) cap in hand, if any one can help in any way, whether its by donating money or helping to raise the profile please do so.
Many thanks for reading this post.

Good post. Impressive.
Im sure there will be plenty of other guys on here who think of this as an admirable thing to do. Theres plenty of cyclists on here, me for one, who choose to help others out by taking part in charity events. I did a 66 mile night ride through London about 6 weeks ago, it started at 12.30 and was the best night out Ive had in many years

I'll be booking up for it for next year.
This Sunday I have another one Im doing, to be honest it is just a piddly 51 miler, round Basingstoke. In December I have a 400 Km cycle ride round Rajahstan, India, to look forward to.
Good luck Martin.

i take my hat off to these guys and girls, when i get 10mins mark i will put some money in.this is tough in it own right.
me for one knows what this involves as iam looking at doing a half tri next year, already training with the bike and running, the swimming lessons start in a few weeks, and having just done my first full london marathon, knows that the running part is hard enough without the added swim and cycle.
now of to a running race so i do laters.

On behalf of Martin I just wanted to say thank you for your comments (theres only me with CIU membership you see).
You are all nutters though. I did the 3 Peaks Challenge last year, that was hard enough. To cycle 400km Matt (in the Indian heat) is mental. And to even attempt a half tri Richard is lunacy. But good luck to to you both.
These lads and ladies though are in a league of their own. I know you probably have to be fitter than your average Joe to be in the services but even that training cant prepare you for what they are doing.
Not sure if you got if you got chance to look at the site but if not, just check this fella's story out...
