Title: Gutter prices around the country
Post by: SherwoodCleaningSe on July 09, 2011, 01:29:24 pm
Hi guys

I'm just wondering what different people charge for gutter cleaning. I have a tendency to think I'm under selling myself. On a 3 bed semi I charge £30 a side to empty and wash over the gutters. I've had customers expecting it done for a fiver but then I've had other customers get ripped off for nearly £300 by somebody else when the live in a bungalow. What's your pricing structure on gutters and where are you is basically what I'm asking.

By the way I'm in sunny Basildon Essex.

Simon.

Hello,

On domestic in Norfolk we always say about £3.50 per metre. However when it comes to commercial we have done jobs for £1.10 per metre. Don't panic though, it was for 485 metres of single storey (large care home complex) work completed in 4 hours total bill £533.50.

I'm always surprised at the people who phone me cold and ask "How much will it cost to have my gutters cleaned?" as if it's the same price for every house.

Some are horrified at the price. Some would happily pay double. Very strange.

I try to base it on time and aim for £35/hr but usually I end up closer to £30. Based in Lincolnshire.

I don't agree that they are ripped off if the pay nearly £300. They have a choice of as almost everyone knows of getting three quotes before agreeing to a job. If you agree to pay £300 then you pay it, no one forces you to pay it. I personally think plumbers and central heating engineers charge sky high prices, but then i have a choice too. The only time you are ripped off is whe someone charges for and does not do the job they said they would do.
The other thing i'd pick up on is when you "wash over" the gutters, i'm assuming cleaning the exterior of the with WFP ? I generally charge a lot more than that as it will drip and run all down their windows too, so invariably its a whole house clean.

The person that was ripped off was an old lady in her late 80's, had some one knock on the door saying her gutters needed doing, how much cash have you got, well we can clean them out for you. In her confusion she said yes. I should have given the details before but I think that is classified as a rip off, it depends on your scruples I think.

You're confusing rip off with people demanding money with menace.

She honestly thought she was getting a fair job done. I think it was more a case of sweet smile and charm than menacing.

I do agree on pricing though that cheapest isn't always best, and that the customer can make their own decisions getting three quotes ect.

On another note what are the best gutter vacs and suppliers?

Simon.

wooden gutters are harder to clean than plastic- just thought I'd throw that one in. Plus some gutters sit close to the tiles and that makes things twice as hard, but I've never seen a house (other than stately home) where £300 for cleaning the gutters wouldn't be considered criminal. Those prices are morally reprehensible.
