Title: PayPal costs
Post by: cozy on July 07, 2011, 05:59:51 pm
Just opened a new PayPal account for Fleabay and allowing my M.O.D. custies to pay via PayPal. Will be offering it from  next week. Just can't seem to find what the new % charges are now, as I haven't used PayPal for a couple of years. Had my old account closed down.

I know they charge for changing from pounds to euro's, but do they still charge for payments into the account?

I think its 3.1% + 20p of transaction and no they dont charge to transfer money from paypal to your account any more, no matter the amount.

I'll forward the e-mail I got today if you want, which has ALL the costs on it.
I presume it's the e-mail address in your profile?

£10 x 3.4% = 34p + 20p = 54p... yes!

Obviously that 20p is a bigger slice on small transactions.

There are cheaper alternatives like Nochex, and for websites.  PayPal is popular because so many people have PayPal accounts.  You pay for the convenience/customer confidence I guess.

We started with PayPal on the website because it's quicker/easier to set up, but once your number of transactions increases there are cheaper alternatives.

Hmm may seem expensive, but no collecting, or no envelopes with stamps on. Looks at 40p odd for envelope.

The costs involved come off your end of year accounts as an expentiture and/or you can tell customers there's a 50p add on charge if they wish to pay that way.
