Title: what else apart from window cleaning an I do ?
Post by: lee sobol on July 06, 2011, 11:33:36 pm
Apart from domestic of which I have 100 customers, what else can I do that would fit along side this business. I do a few gutter cleans which brings in about £80 a pop, looking to add other services, what do others do here ?

Dog walking is suprisingly good. An early morning hours walk with two or three dogs bring in £20-£30 before you start your window cleaning. Best thing is its every day regular money. The only thing I have found that I would say is better than window cleaning.
The only problem that I could forsee is that it might not work everywhere but it works round here. Other problem is you are very tied by arrangements. You can't just take time off when you like.

Had to smile when I read this Vince.  If you had seen some of things I do to avoid customers' dogs over the years.  I've even turned down work on properties if I have felt uncomfortable about the dog(s).  I have been bitten since I started window cleaning and there have been failed attempts too.  Think I'll settle for feeding their fish when they're on holiday  :)  .  I don't particularly like dogs anyway.

while you ve got your pole in ya hand why not offer to clean the fascias/outside gutters/conny roofs to existing customers say once a year to keep their property looking good?

honestly guys just keep your eye out for green roofs/dirty fascias when your out and about window cleaning and then ask them do they want them cleaning.

dont go in too cheap.its a specialist service so you want a bit more than your hourly rate you get from window cleaning.these are good add ons in spring/summer.

i have a fair whack of regular maintenance window cleaning of various types(340+ customers)mostly on 4 weekly and a few commercial jobs here and there which is good regular income all year round.

i certainly dont need or want another job like dog walking for example!i earn enough from my window cleaning business.

my philosophy is keep it simple and do you main service well(in this case window cleaning)and offer the other cleaning services that you can do with the same equipment(water fed poles).

regards

complete conservatory valet service

get yourself some good chems eg ubik or virosal

use customers outside tap - connect wfp to it.

pair of good solid steps helps - like the yellow ones that you see around all the time.

then you can clean the roof and all pvc on it including finals.

empty and clean gutters

clean frames and windows in/out.

sorted!

we do on average 4 a week at around £80 - £150 per job

Boldy,I work in a rural area and this is a sideline that interests me.How do you work out pricing for grass cutting?Per hour or per size of the garden?I know it probably differs from area to area but a rough idea would be appreciated.Cheers.

I had a customer whose company manufactured big floor cleaning machines; the sort you see in Tescos; and he wanted me to be a salesman for him, where he would provide the transport and I'd have to go to various parts of the country on an ad hoc basis and give a sales display.  He would pay me a flat rate; something like £60 per day, plus what sounded like a generous commission on anything I sold.

I quite fancied it, it sounded like it could be a bit of fun to be honest (I'm a show off attention seeker by nature), but I declined.

I'd probably only end up with the £60 and no commission some or most days, and I can do a lot more with window cleaning.

to be honest i use to do a lot years ago more than windows i use to have a minimum price of £8 back then although now i would think you need a min of at least £12 i always go in high look at the expression on the face and then maybe come down a little as you have another in the area etc i have accidently built the half days worth i have now just by mentioning it to exsisting window custys and they all £20 each
