I've just purchased a battery charger and started charging the battery for my trolley system.
Unfortunately; upon reading the instructions it says I shouldn't use it to charge any battery less than 20 Ah.
I've just had a look at my battery and it's 17 Ah - so obviously smaller - but only 3 Ah's out (what-ever an Ah is).
Am I doing something dangerous?
-
17 Ah means 17 Amps per hour i think
the danger of using a bigger charger than the battery is, it might overcharge and catch fire
at least thats what i remmber from a guy who installs Leisure batteries in caravans etc

Cheers, mate. I'll not go to bed with it left on then. I'm a 'bodger' as you probably know by now.
'Ah, that'll do!' is almost my catch-phrase.

Though most usually have an automatic cut out system/safety device. Though I would probably not leave it on over night or when your out. For the record.....I asked hubby! He confirmed what I thought.

Cheers, Sair,
Too late though. I bought one from Argos this morning! Wrong type, but I aim to get my money's worth unless my house burns down first.
-
Argos have a 14 day money back policy I think. Return it with no reason other than it was unsuitable.

It seems to be working fine! I've put it on trickle charge, and tommorow when I erect the new shed, I'll run a cable through the cat flap and charge it in there.
There's only a 3 Ah difference!
-
Did you get the shed from Argos as well?

Hi Tosh,
Was just thinking - not possible I know !!!!
I'm not doing anything special now for the rest of the night so if anything happens to the battery charger just email me and Will & I will speed up the M4 and A48 and put your fire out with our wfp !!
Be a good chance to meet up eh !!!!
Regards to Helen from Pontypool - but she can't help it (think your on rations now Tosh ),
regards

And hubby and I could come clean up when the fires out & cook a little breakfast!
SORTED!

Tosh
You are running a risk of overcharging your battery with devastating results.
Unless you use an intelligent charger or get one that charges to a max of 17 amp hrs.
A friend of mine has no recognisable face now because of exactly this situation. He "got away" with it for a while then he happened to be there when it finally blew. This one certainly isn't worth the risk for the sake of a few quid.
Amp Hrs.. a simple explanation:
Most batteries are rated in amp-hours (Ah). An amp-hour is a rate of one amp of electricity for one hour. A 100Ah battery will in theory give 1 amp for 100 hours or 100 amps for 1 hour or some other value pro rata. EG 5 amps for 20 hrs.
Hope this helps

having read Andrews post, I agree with Wor Lass! Take it back & buy one suited to your requirements. Not worth the risk really is it?

Very well. I think Bamburgh Castle is my favourite all time castle. Then you've got Lindisfarne, alternatively called Holy Island or, more properly named; the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
I used to take girlfriends there, just to pretend I was romantic. It was all a farce though. I love the rugged North East coast. Vikings, robbing, wars, murder, beer etc.
Brilliant place.

Matt,
Are you from the Chepstow area too ?

Sarah/Matt, you're both probably extremely closely related! The Welsh have a genetically similar gene pool.
It stems from too much in-breeding which is why Wor Lass has a 'pointy head'.
'If she's not good enough for her father; she's not good enough for my son', is the local line.
-
oh dear.............RUN TO THE HILLS ......QUICK!!!! :P
-
Tosh, is Wor Lass from Varteg, Garndiffaith, Trevethin area then? ;)
-
An even simpler solution would be......put your battery charger away and get your ladder out mate.......so who said WFP was a much safer method of window cleaning ?.........what lies beneath etc....
-
TOSH:please refrain from driftring of the subject this is a w/c forum not a history forum neither a gene pool forum, and anymore use of bad words and you will be stuck off,the offending word was welch ;D
RE BATTERY MY DAD USE TO SAY IF IN DOUBT WHIP IT OUT,BUT I DONT THINK HE WAS TALKING ABOUT BATTERY CHARGING ;D
