Time how long it takes to fill; say 20 minutes; and then the next time you fill, set an electronic egg timer to go off at the required time.

I am ok, where I live I have to stand and watch it fill or the kids would have the van emptied and sold within minutes

Approximate time, set countdown timer on watch, go and check.
Yes, it has overflowed sometimes (DOH!) but not often.

2000ltr static tank, auto cut off, just fill the vans from a pump in the morning  ;D

Doesn't that depend on how much water there is in the bottom to start with?  ;)

Tosh is sad though, he probably marked lines on his tank every inch and timed them all and made a chart and stuff :o ;D

It depends on yer common sense.  Half full = half the time; that kind of thing.

Use yer judgement.

Sigh!  It's like having to spoon feed babies sometimes.  ;D

Anyway, if Tosh over fills his van tank it's not a train smash as his floor in the cargo area in lower than the floor in the cabin.

thankfully i live on a steep hill so just turn around and watch it flood out the back lol

The second time i got a knock on door and a neighbour asked "is it normal for water to be ping out of your van"

Then i flew out to the tap lol

I park on a hill to fill up, cab pointing downwards; so on the one occasion where I have overfilled, it all ended up in the cab, gushing out of the front doors.

The egg timer solution means this hasn't happened again.

I really need to get a transfer hose instead of the garden hose I'm using.  It takes 20 minutes to fill a 400 litre tank.  So I generally start filling it, start the timer, and then get a coffee and sort out my work for the next day.
