Title: Price reduction,letter to customers.
Post by: Nameless Drudge on June 24, 2011, 08:01:19 am
I thought perhaps something like this.

"Times are hard and there is currently an upsurge in a new breed of window cleaner offering services for less, almost a "dirty arab spring",so to speak. This is driving prices down and on reflection my own pricing stucture will not remain competitive.Wishing always to be at the forefront and cutting edge of this industry i shall be reducing my prices by 15% forthwith. No further price reductions are intended for at least 12 months."

However I`m not sure if i would be doing this for the customers benefit or mine.

Should i just reduce the price and say nothing?

Just drop the "dirty Arab spring" quote and reduce their payment by 50% at least.

In this climate you can't promise not to reduce again so drop that as well.

Good luck, you have a head for business for sure, maybe go in for the next series of The Apprentice.

Thats enough beer for you mate!!!

If someone cancels & stated genuinely that it is for financial reasons, then I might offer a discount until they get themselves sorted. Other than that, my prices remain or even rise.

Have you lost a lot of work to undercutters?

if you are losing custys every day/week then maybe ask them why and prehaps you would need to reduce if its price related but if you arnt losing any why reduce the price

Actually as they get "me" at my price they probably wouldn`t dare take anyone on for less.
I am most likely in danger of "overcutters".

I think this is a genuine post.

We ourselves no work for a cuppa, perhaps a sandwich if it's around lunchtime - we provide the filling obviously - the odd customer might press a shilling in to my hand and it makes my week.

Times are hard and we should be thinking of the community not our own welfare. So what if we fall behind on our mortgage or rent; and the kids were looking a little portly - not any more mind!! - we'll all feel good about ourselves in the end if we cut cut cut until we're offering our customers a fiver to let us clean their windows.

Don't do it; that would be silly.  You may lose one-or-two due to the current economic climate/cheaper window cleaners, but you will not lose a large amount of work.

Sounds like a good idea to me.  Should bring in more work too, and will be loyal to you for being so honest and straight with them.

Not a good business move in my eyes - unless of course you are charging excessively at the moment.

I've only had a couple of customers shows signs of financial probs and I have agreed to do them every other time for slightly more.  It still reduces their cost over the year.   At least I haven't lost the customers and I get a bit more each clean.

let me get this straight. there is competition offering a lower quality service at a lower price, and to compete with these lower quality cleaners you'll reduce your prices to be closer to theirs but keep the higher quality clean, so you're now doing a better clean and not getting paid for it? i assume you wont be matching their prices so you'll still then lose work to them

Basically dont do it. Its a stupid move.
You are saying you are not better than your competitors and so can not charge more. I would increase my prices yearly.
You will be working harder for less and will be putting your business at risk how can that be smart?

if you have to, why not donate the 15% to a good cause
lots of benefits in doing this to everyone
including your business

sean, if you are worried about undercutters, maybe you could eek out your cleaning frequency monthly to 6 weeks.

Or if your 6 weekly to 8 weeks, i know you will need more work so won't happen over night but you could sell this to the customer as you can't drop prices/ or a way of softing the blow for price increases.

Is this thread serious or are you pulling our legs ???
