Title: Casual Cleaners

I am at the point where I need to consider taking on some casual cleaners.

Could anyone suggest an hourly rate for short note jobs, etc?
Also what sort of terms you have for these kind of cleaners?

I pay my casuals £6 ph pretty good rate i think but i always say you get what you pay for.

I pay my girls £6.00 per hour regardless of the type of job...regular, one offs etc.......

still can't get any staff tho......

If u pay fixed price they'll work harder and faster

The problem with an hourly rate is most cleaners tend to drag out the ours

Casual Cleaners to do Springs, End of Tenancy and to cover sickies .

They would need to be able to work at short notice.

Any suggestions James123

I pay 'casual' cleaners the same as my other staff, I don't feel they should be paid more for short notice, people will cover if they are available and it suits them, I don't think a higher rate would make much difference. 

If you are thinking of paying alot more than your regular staff to get them there then you may as well use an agency for the one offs.

Hi James, not if the client specifies how many hours per clean they want.......all my girls get paid the same hourly rate (with the exception of teams of 2 where the driver gets paid more than the non-driver), they all have set times per property and get paid for the amount of hours they clean....if they go over then their allocated time they still only get paid for their set hours. They are under no illusions and don't try it on!!  Bear in mind tho' I am purely in the domestic market!

I also agree with Fox, not only that but if the regular cleaners get wind that the casuals are being paid more than them that could cause a little dissent in the ranks, so to speak!

Yeah, I get your point!!

Do you reckon that nil hours contra ts are the way to go wiht casuals? But, to be honest I'm not sure of they are legal anymore!!

Denise,

Spring, end of tenancy and one off cleans. If you pay a set price per house upto 4 bedrooms. It will work out on the smaller less dirty ones they get a very good pay day and on the larger ones they'll have to work for there money. So it's swings and roundabouts but even on really dirty ones it'll still work out as a very good hourly rate,well that's if there any good

They are legal still.

Quite few large companies that I know of still use them.

The idea is to give them the same contract as everyone else with the number of hours they are contracted to do each week as 'ZERO'.

I'll have a scout around and see if I can get hold of a copy.

I was just wondering, i need some staff, but would like to avoid taking people on full time at the moment, as i dont have a lot of work to give them, (around 8-10 hours/week).  can anyone help with advicce about how casual cleaners would work.  Do i need to do anything with tax, NI etc about them?
