I am from glasgow and have alot of companys in the local papers offering this... I have been doing the numbers and it just doesnt add up how these companys can have mortgage etc... I phoned a few up to see if they upsell over the phone but no 2 carpets cleaned £25 write enough haha
if anyone can shed light

They upsell when they get there/once the job is complete. Along the lines of wanting more as its dirty/bigger etc or sell you scotch guard.
Plus they are in and out in 10 minutes (a quick once over with a water only rinse). So they can fit in 6 or 7 jobs a day.

Wonder how muc tax they pay ???
Probably not much if any, surely they'll be running at a loss, if not, very small profit margins ???

Simple Jamie !
Companies who advertise along these lines and there are several around the Greater Glasgow area who've been doing so for 25 plus years, get a high volume of sales.
THEY DON'T NEED TO UPSELL as they will on most jobs be asked to clean an additional area increasing their ticket by 50% and they will also get at least one upholstery job each day which adds around £300 to their weekly income.
Will they vacuum every carpet and move all furniture and take in air movers and brush the pile when finished ? OF COURSE NOT.
They will discuss the actual areas to be cleaned and get on with it.
They will work harder and longer than the DREAMERS who only want to work part time but will almost certainly earn considerably more and can build a strong client base who will use them again and refer them to others.
Of course they could kid themselves that they're above THAT LEVEL of pricing although they have failed to work out that the formula would give them around £45 an hour and by actually working for around 7 hours per day they will earn a lot more than the DREAMER who's van is sitting in the driveway.

Well said that man ............................ ;D

and by actually working for around 7 hours per day they will earn a lot more than the DREAMER who's van is sitting in the driveway.
And there endeth the lesson

thanks for the feedback

So all those who have agreed with Robert why are you posting in the morning?
Lots of points here.
Firstly the concept that you are cheap will keep you working 7 hours a day isn't necesarily true. You could still have your van on the drive. And £45 an hr at those price (travelling, chatting to custy, stain removal)?
The reality is rather than being creative, intelligent and strategic about building a business, that approach is basically saying I'm only good enough to get these low prices, it's the only way I can compete. I think most people on here are way better than that surely.
-
Haven't we been here before?
Charge high and work less or charge low and work more.
There is a market for low price cleaning and they probably earn more than those who want to hang out for really high prices, in the hope they will pick up 1 job in 10.

I am posting in the morning as I chose to have today off.......
Which is better than having died in march this year...... Wynne.......

Hey Hector, you have to do what you have to do, if March was bad for you and you have turned it around fair play to you.
-
what about setting up 2 companys 1 2 for 25.. and another high price?
