Any tips, and pit falls to look out for?
Do you leaflet and knock say month one and all them what you leaflet and no repl to, go back the following month and knock and leaflet the ones you had no response from?

i would knock council in the morning from say 10am and stay out knocking till 8 pm,
what u going to say on the door
-
council? what you mean.
going to say i am a local window cleaner looking to expand my round, do you have a window cleaner at the moment? yes no, if no..... How do you feel about having a free estimate, ......then see what happends.
I think being genuine and freindly helps, down sales, so pretty good with people in a selling realm.

Will you be taking your equipment with you? If you are, when you get your first customer, you could do it there and then, you would be earning straight away and you have a good chance of being noticed by neighbours/passers by etc.

i was going to book them in a week later so I could convert as many as poss in that area, so in week i have say a whole days work to do or as many as i can do in a day i though t it might be the most practical way of doing it.

Persistence is the key . . . . . you cant just drive round looking at the windows and if they are clean drive off to another area !
Try and use a map of the area you are targeting and mark on it the streets you are to knock.
Look smart ( embroidered polo if possible ) and do knock for at least three hours continuously with a well rehearsed
script such as . . . " Hi I am expanding my window cleaning business in the area and wondered if you would like a free quote ? ". If they ask for one explain that the price includes cleaning the frames ( a lot do not do this ) ! Offer them the price for a four weekly clean and if they are hesitant add 20% and give them that price for an eight weekly clean ( I have been using this method and it really works ).
Keep on knocking despite the " no thank yous " until the three hours are up and see how many new customers you have. You are guaranteed to get customers using this method only if you commit to doing three hours.
Above all else smile and look confident even if you are not. If you are around West Yorkshire area I would go out with you for a few hours. All the best ;D

the last post was good, thanks, what time are you going out to start your 3 hours? cheers.
-
I would clean them as soon as possible after canvassing. Don't give them time to change their minds and get the cash flowing ASAP.
-
by council i mean the council estates, that seem to be full of retired, not working or hubby at work adn wife at home,
plan to clean the day after you have canvessed them, as a week is too long and they might forget,
-
buy a local streetmap, colour in the streets as you go with a pencil - leave no stone unturned

If you are going around in the daytime, leaflet don't knock. Very few people will be in and you will spend a lot of time waiting at doors that will never be answered. I'm quite sure that in the evening an hour knocking will produce more than an hour leafleting in general.

I always leaflet an area first. Then follow up with door knocking for 2hrs per evening the following week.

If the house has got one of those wireless battery operated doorbells - use the knocker or knock on the door. I reckon 75% of those wireless thingys don't work.
And make eye contact, smile and relax
Good Luck,
Dave

wear a uniform smile and make a fuss of dog, baby or any other creature that comes to the door. dont loose confidense if you keep hearing no thanks, it will happen. Also look on google maps for houses with big connies worked for me.
Good luck and dont forget to close the gates

If there is a car on the drive, knock it... if not leave a leaflet .... that how i do it
-
Don't bother... get a proper job!!!!! ;)
