Post by: Paul Evans on June 13, 2011, 04:02:05 pm
2 beds and a lounge.
Quoted over the phone £85.
Got there this afternoon, to say they had been econonmical with the truth is an undererstatement  :o
couldnt believe my eyes human s88t and p**s allover the floor and walls. They had a hospital bed in the lounge. Think it was a elderly relative they looked after.( I say that lightly),
Anyway they was only crappy carpets dont think they had been vacced never mind cleaned in the last 20 years.

£85 no thanks.
politely advised them to change the carpets

I've never turned one down like that, just roll your sleeves up and get on with it :D

(but my price would have gone up dramatically)

Derek
If the carpet was as described by Paul would you have really done it for the same price ie 2 beds and a lounge for £85 ??????????????

Remember you would have had to clean all the gear that touched those carpets and the hoses too - all that extra work for nowt.

I would have considered doing what Jim said - do it but for a larger bill.

I often think if you know what you're doing, have decent equipment and chems, then a bad carpet doesnt really take much longer than a fairly clean carpet, the method is basically the same, maybe just turn heat up, a bit of extra prespray or scrub and thats it.

if you have to spend ages on it then somethings wrong,

As for stains if they dont shift in first 10mins of cleaning, they probably aint never coming out  ;)

Steve

and yes max, "to high heaven" is the expression. my eyes were watering when i started scrubbing. ;D

I have 'walked' once but only because any attempt at cleaning would probably have caused 90% of the carpet to end up in the waste tank ;D
I'd admit to if the customer had been less than honest over the phone and didn't want a site visit first, then you turn up to all that on the carpet, I know I would reel off all the potential dangers to me etc, how the equiptment would need special after cleaning and up would go the price.
If they didn't like it then fine, it was their problem for allowing it to get like that, and as the saying goes, don't let it become yours unless you are being paid enough.

BTW Steve you should have an incoming call soon from someone who wants something doing like yesterday :o

Lewis - standard price plus at least 30%

The cleaning won't take any longer than normal, just the washing out/sanitising afterwards adds time/cost

Perhaps she realised that your guestimate was too cheap, and thought she may get a rubbish job if she said yes to it...... glad it worked out ok as those houses are are not on the smaller side of average ;D

Yep probably right , that's what happens when you try to be too generous  ::)

Least she had the sense to get the proper measurements to be on the safe side, makes life a whole lot easier for all  :)
