Looking at the supermax prices the 47 compact is the same pole as the 61 but just a over a foot longer on each section yet the price is double ???

NO, the 61ft is High Modulus carbon. ;)

Is it fully telescopic?

Is it fully telescopic?
As far as I know it is, haven't read anything to suggest otherwise.

The Super-Max61 (66ft reach) is a fully telescopic pole with full incremental adjustment on all sections - just like all the rest of the Super-Max range. As has been said though it is made from the very best Japanese high modulus carbon fibre. Unlike some other high level poles on the market, the high modulus material is used on all 10 sections rather than having a multi-modulus construction which uses less high modulus material.
Although this pole is only 11ft longer than the standard carbon fibre 50ft Super-Max we felt that it was necessary to use this superior material to help control a pole that is being used on 6-7 storey high work. For those that have used poles at this height there is a world of difference between controlling them at 50ft and then 61ft. We carried out many tests and made several poles with multi-modulus construction and were just not satisfied with their ultimate performance.
Unfortunately this does mean that it is a lot more expensive than the rest of the Super-Max range, but this is purely down to the quality of the carbon fibre. I did consider using carbo-titanium cloth, but this would have raised the price again and whilst it would have been stronger it would not have made it much stiffer or lighter. Incorporating Kevlar into the mix was another option, but unfortunately due to the humidity absorption capacity of Kevlar this would prove unsuitable for water fed pole work as it could lead to composite deterioration over time.
I hope that this has answered your questions. :)

can the sections be removed as you work down in height?

No you cannot as all of the sections have end-stops on them - these are very important at these heights as over extending a section and it 'popping' out of the end of the pole when you have 50ft+ extended in the air will cause an accident. Any pole that can simply be pulled out accidentally at these heights could cause issues. If you really wanted though you could remove the end-stop tape from say the 6th section and use this at 40ft if needed. However due to the longer length of the pole when closed this would not be ideal. This pole is really only suitable for high level work. A more suitable option for really high level (IMO) and then using on lower level is the Xtreme pole as this is a lot lighter, has removable extensions and is quite a bit shorter when closed.

i have thought about getting the extreme 48 with the 3 sections, with it not being fully telescopic puts me off a little, im also waiting for someone to post a picture so i can see what you get for your money and also interested to see where the hose goes on the addtional sections
the 61 being fully telescopic appeals to me as its only 800g heavier than the extreme @62 foot but over 1 kilo lighter than my 47 xtel and over 3 kilos lighter than my 60 xtel...decisions :)
