Title: van mount is awesome!!
Post by: dazmond on June 09, 2011, 07:27:36 pm
very compact estate work today and for the rest of this week.only had to move the van 3 times all day!!i managed to clean 11 houses without moving the van this morning! so much better not having to drag the trolley around with all the barrels!! :D :D :D

cleaned 27 houses(9am-430pm)with an hour for dinner.well happy!im taking to the van mount like a duck to water!!!

i think my main problem was i thought it would be a pain fitting the tank and dragging hose everywhere!!i must admit it felt very liberating working today.ill never use the trolley again!!!

regards and best wishes to you all

I do it is seriously easy to reel in i use the one without wheels, tosh has it too i think he is getting on well with it too. Its better than the metal one I used before you know the type widely used by us all.

350L TANK(ratchet strapped down)/pure freedom trolley.

100m microbore hose and lightweight hose reel(both from gardiners)

22ft CLX/25FT SLX with supalite and extreme brushes.

hose and reel are great.looking forward to tomorrows onslaught now without a single barrel needing to be lugged about!!

Now I hope there is no-one called "Groundhog" looking in on this post..........................

A year or so back I argued black n blue that Backpack is best.........................

I now have:-

Trailer with 250ltr tank
Trolley mounted on the trailer - so can be used with hose reel.
And....oh yes....I still have the Backpack.

Where ever I can it's Hosereel.........But......
There are occasions when the trolley is taken off and used separately, when I can't get parked up close.  The hosereel is mounted on the trolley so I useually park it in a convenient place and hosereel around.
About once a day I pop the Backpack on to do the odd nip n do job or backs through a house.  Now please note the backpack is mounted so I can get it on my back easily.

Daz

What length of ratchet straps did you use and how many ? Is the tank fitted behind your seats (don't know if you have a bulkhead)

cheers

ross just one 10 metre 5 ton ratchet strap is holding tank down.its strapped down tight behind the 2 front seats.no bulkhead.it took me around 30 mins to ratchet strap it down and fit tank elbow.another 30 mins putting the new reel together and fitting the hose and hey presto!i have a full van mount that will do me a full days work!! :) :)

i cant see me using my trolley again as i dont carry any barrels!surely your hose is long enough to just pull out, plug your pole in and away you go?

I have a trolley (Freedom) which is plumbed into the 650l tank using GEKA quick connects and a few ball valves...easy to disconnect the trolley, take it out of the van throw on a 25l container and away you go...also have a backpack which has it's uses....

Don't discount the trolley it's a very versatile and useful tool...and lets face it if you have one it's an ideal 'all in one pump box'...great for winter too...just take it out of the cold and put it somewhere warm till morning.

Horses for courses...

Cheers
Dave.

dave id be interested in seeing how you ve plumbed the trolley in using those connectors.ive just drop the 2 pipes from the trolley(50L version)in the top lid for now.i have a tank elbow with a hose attached which is doing nothing!i leave it tied up on a bungee to stop it draining water from the tank at the moment!!

Daz, how safe do you feel with tank strpped down?

Not being funny just intrested as ionics and others say about crash testing and the dangers of being in a crash you would be crushed against dashboard :o

Has your van insurance gone up with tank fitted in van?
thanks lee.

Daz, would you be better off selling your trolley complete, the pure freedom one always seem to sell for alot, buy a back pack for your houses that you can't get the hose to, then buy a new pump and controller, plump it in properly, then have a tap on the tank and hose lock connectors going to the pump so that you can easily remove it in the winter?

1 ratchet strap and no bulkhead? your brave dazmond

At first I thought yeah a ratchet strap sounds ok then I started trawling through past posts on the forum and I'm not convinced that 4 ratchet straps through the floor anchors are safe anymore. Like Daz i am at the stage where i want to go to a van mount It all sounded easy as  but once I started reading previous posts on securing a tank I'm not to sure that Daz's installation is the way to go. I'm gonna read up a bit more on it and decide whether some more hardier anchor points through the chassis would be feasible.

i got two ratchet straps but only fitted one!(no room for the other!)its solid its really tightly strapped down.its a layflat tank and i have bars behind my drivers seat.the straps fit snuggly in between the baffles in the middle of tank.feels ok to me.

im not planning on having a crash any time soon and im certainly not gonna worry about it!i drive very carefully with a full tank of water in the back.my tank is a quarter full at the moment.ive took trolley out and hose reel as ill be doing a bit of driving about this weekend here and there.

im planning on getting a car as well next year so the van will just be used for work.

it was a cheap easy convert from trolley to van mount in about 60 mins!!! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

lee the trolley still comes in handy for washing the van with two barrels on and if in the case of van off the road i could put trolley in a car in an emergency.trolley will be taken out in winter or ill have a van heater in the back.

i dont have any work where i cant get a hose to.dont need backpack or trolley.the van mount covers all my work.a couple of jobs where i thought it would be awkward with the van mount i dumped on monday.
