Is it safe to put your bank details (ie sort code/acc no) on the back of the slip you push through to say you done windows ???
-
the only thing people could do with those details is send you money!
-
;D thats the idea g BUT can other dangers apply ??
-
I would slightly guess there is danger as Natwest now do not have the Account Number on there bank cards.
Can't see why, but there is obviously a reason.
-
Didn't Johnaton Ross think this too once and read his details out live on air thinking nothing would happend. He had pelple setup loads of direct debits on his account.

Perfectly. Been doing it for a year with no problems.

I think it would be fine to your existing customers. Or just make them available on request.
I wouldn't put them on your website though if you have one.

I state on invoice: "Bank Transfer: Please contact us for the necessary details."
Works well.

That's what we used to do and never had any problems.

since i got told about the details on my site i have been cleaned out of every penny from my bank account

I only give them to customers who want them rather than just being public for all to see.
If you wrote a cheque, you would be giving out more details because you would show a signature too.
Problems might arise if someone knew other personal info about you. Also, the setting up of direct debits from your account is possible if someone knows the system as some direct debits are signatureless. However, you should get instant refunds from your bank if this happens.
As bank transfers/direct debits become more commonplace, I expect the banks to increase the amount of verification required to set one up. Direct debits are already restricted to companies of a certain standing but this is clearly no longer enough.
It would be inconvenient but ultimately, the loss is borne by the bank.

Was it not Jeremy Clarkson who published his details in a newspaper and said there was no harm? Someone transferred £500 from his account to a charity.

Oh, for Christ's sake. You're giving your details to a handful of customers whose names and addresses are known to you, not publishing it in a newspaper for millions to see.
Get a grip and give it to your customers. Nothing will go wrong.
